Aldi pillaged

  1. It was amusing to see the bikers gathered round the cheap bike gear this
    morning.

Daughter got her new helmet. Came with a spare visor, too: first time
I've seen that. Do the big brands throw in a spare visor these days? As
the lid cost just £35, that smacks of a bargain. The last time I bought
a decent branded visor, for my old Shoei, it was about £25.

FOAD chain and padlock for a tenner. New boots for £25. Decent looking
    gloves for £12.50.

I was casting covetous looks at the air compressor (about £67) and the
rattle gun kit (another £17). I have dropped heavy hints with The
Doctor, as it's my birthday in three weeks.

  2. It happens that The Older Gentleman formulated :
My Lidl flip front helmet of last week came with a spare visor, soft
bag and an alternative (smaller size) set of liner cushions for below
the ears. £40 versus the £25 it would cost for a replacement visor for
    my current helmet.

  3. I bought the chain[1] / padlock[1] and boots[1] when they came round a
couple of years ago. No problem with them.
Got a rattle gun a couple of years ago to. But I can't remember if it
was Aldi or Lidl. Works a treat.

Lidl's web site are offering ladies with only their knickers on for
    £3:99 next monday!

The bike-related offers are valid this week over here, went to one of the
local Lidls to have a look today. I already got a jacket and trousers last
time (well pleased with them), I got the gloves which seemed ok and the
waterproofs. The helmet didn't make a great impression, plastic vents etc
looked too flimsy, lining felt a bit rough and the paint scratched easily.
Worse still, some bloody pikey(s) had opened all boxes and nicked the second
    visors.

I knew I had a lage-ish head but my Airoh is a Medium (56-58) and the only
B-square/Lidl one that would fit was an XL (61). Go figure.

The padlock and chain, are they made of cheese?

Possibly not the best place to come out of semi-lurkness, but am I the
only one here who sees some disconnect between this 'is oh so cheap'
thread and yesterdays whine about the cost of living?

  8. Dunno. If the bike gets nicked, we'll find out.

    Heavy cheese, certainly.

Cool! Where do you live? I just bought some bolt croppers from Lidl -
    £4.99!

I went to Lidl as my local Aldi was closed. I decided that the lids were okay
for the money but I (rightly or wrongly) don't trust them as much as I would
an expensive one. No ACU sticker, not that I even know if said sticker has
    any meaning.
As I had decided not to buy anything safety-related, I finished up getting a
couple of pairs of "motorcycling socks". Three quid a pair, and allegedly
ankle reinforcement which I think might help with where my boots rub. The
intercom looked interesting at a fiver, but I reckon all the wires would just
be a hassle at the end of the day.

Maybe not you but there was a moan the inflation calculators weren't
representative of the real cost of living.

They take into account the lower cost of goods (now a lot cheaper due to
race to the bottom of the globalised economy) which negates the effect of
    an individual's increased energy costs.

Think about the cost of clothing in relation to 10 or 20 years ago.

Looking through expenditure on my bikes a pair of NGK plug caps were
?5.20 in 1996. I've just bought four (from the same place) for ?10.

Of course, this could just be the Man fuckin' with ya mind.

I thought the boots looked like they wouldn't last long so I didn't bother,
although I needed a pair of commuting shoes. I'd like to know if I was
wrong. Regarding the helmets, it was discussed in de.rec.motorrad that the
Aldi lid had gone through an ADAC (something like the AA) test in Germany
    and received decent notes overall.

Point is there was a whine/moan/point about the calculation cost of
    living.

But you're back? I suppose they told the Doctor they wouldn't have you, as
you were too old and worn out, and not really very clean.

  20. I bought an Aldi lid a couple of years agao and took it back after 1
ride. Every time I did a look back the visor flipped open and then
closed again when I looked forward, it was extremely irritating. They
all may be somewhat less shite now.
I got the Aldi socks last year, I still haven't GMKD so they obviously
don't work. I think they're reasonably warm and comfortable and seem
to be hard wearing. Tried the Lidl socks yesterday and they don't seem
quite as good. Apart from the L and R I can't tell the difference
between each side, whereas Aldi's were noticeably different (they have
what appears to be a gear-change panel on the left?).

The intercom is pretty poor at any kind of speed but for a fiver what
can you expect. When I first took the kids out on the back the
intercom was a real bonus in terms of reassurance for both of us. It
wasn't so good when the boy (6) started screaming. Or, come to think
of it, when the girl (9) started singing.
