All ukrm-ers are now US criminals - official

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by The Older Gentleman, Jan 12, 2008.

  1. The US has surrepitiously made it an offence to post annoying
interwebthingy messages without disclosing your true identity.

Stupid fuckers. I mean, if you conceal your ID, how are they going to
    find you?

I can see the immigration officials at JFK now, with a long list of
offenders who won't be permitted entry:

Seems like they learned a thing or two from us recently look-

"To grease the rails for this idea, Sen. Arlen Specter, a Pennsylvania
Republican, and the section's other sponsors slipped it into an
unrelated, must-pass bill to fund the Department of Justice. The plan:
to make it politically infeasible for politicians to oppose the measure.

The tactic worked. The bill cleared the House of Representatives by
voice vote, and the Senate unanimously approved it Dec. 16"

    Cunts the lot of them.

  7. This is a perfectly "normal"[1] tactic that gets employed there all the
time, so they probably haven't learnt much yet.

[1] That's normal as in "normal in Washington". I understand there's
quite a difference between the two definitions.

As the behaviour of many of the fuckwits here demonstrates, all too many
people think that UKRM and Usenet in general is a sort of region of
'non-droit', where the law stops at the door and where 'anything goes'.
Maybe this is part of the oft-repeated 'pub' analogy where UKRM is compared
to a pub and well who'd get offended at what's said after one too many down
    the Dog & Duck, eh?

But UKRM isn't a 'pub'; it's a print medium where, thanks to google, your
words live on long after you've posted them.

Why should people have impunity to post statements that in real life would
get them a broken nose and in 'traditional' print would see a libel writ
being issued, just because 'it's Usenet'?

Would you use the word 'Kike' in your _Bike_ column? No, you wouldn't. Or
you might use it once, and would be clearing your desk out the next day.
So why do you think it's 'all right' to use it on UKRM?

French law is an ass in many areas, but they've already recognised that
speech and words in print are not always 'harmless', just because they're
posted to a Usenet group. Post that the gas chambers were 'just a detail'
from a French IP address and it'll cost you. As well it should.
