I never bought it as it always seemd to be lagging behind Bike. They were
obviously fairly low down the pecking order for press bikes. They would
often have a report on a new launch a month after the other rags. With
dwindling sales they sold the rights and concentrated on their touring
business. Seems to be working for them over a decade later...

 

Utter bollocks they did.

It was started by Mark Williams, as a sort of development of Which Bike.
Peter organised the early tours for them, and did the occasional touring
bike roadtest.

Perhaps my memory is hazy. Perhaps they bigged themselves up. My most
recent chats have been with Alistair, who currently runs MCi Tours.
Alistair seemed to be on the production side, as we have had converstaions
about their transition from outsourcing typesetting to using inhouse
facilities. Phototypesetting was something I was involved in during the mid
1980s, hence my interest.

Lovely. Must go back to that region some day. I've been over many of the
passes, not since 1995 though.

 

One or the other, for sure. Trust me on this, because I worked for the
mag's predecessor and I knew most of the people involved in its
inception, writing and editing.

Ah, so he was a production editor or similar. Well, hence the word
"produced". I'm pretty sure he did some writing too. But MCI was not his
baby.
