Apparently. Another long-term UKRMer has joined one of the other
companies in the Group. So, only email and Intranet cross-over rather
than any real level of business interaction. And in a different office.
    fine with me.

Dragon and a taxi to Charlotte Street was my first thought, but I
    opted for the other meme.

you're going to have to explain that one. In fact, the big-nosed
gentleman in question is - I believe - younger than me...

this isn't quite like that, as I've known the person concerned for
    years.

I did have a bit of a moment a couple of weeks ago, when interviewing
someone for a contract role, and as part of the wind-up section they
made several comments around "I see you post quite a bit about bikes to
    Usenet".

Well that narrows it down to me and the dead bloke.

You mean, apart from the fact he's given his name away several times
and the type of company he works for?

  9. And he usually says when he's interviewing and for what post. Coupled
with the fact that his voice and appearance are the stuff of legend it
wouldn't take a half awake candidate who knew of ukrm to know it was
    darsy sitting opposite.

  10. I'm sorely tempted. Getting home to the Chateau might be tricky, though.

23.26 ex Victoria to <censored>, less than 30 minutes then a short walk
    to your house.

I usually aim to get the 22.17 down but tend to catch the 23.02 or 00.05
    to Hove.

No it's not. 19 minutes Old Street Tube to Victoria, change at Kings X.

Most of them, yeah, but there are a few, like your good self who stand
out and would easily be identified.

  15. The regulars and clique members are the posts that get read if you are a
lurker. It didn't take me long at all when in lurkdom to work out who
were the main players, what they did, broadly where they lived etc. It's
very easy for this stuff to be picked up. Add in the power of Google
groups and some cross checking and you could almost steal people's
identities. Call me a stalker in waiting ;-)
What if they were <stereotype alert> orange, had no hair, an odd beard
    and a distinctive accent?

I think you'd know who that was.

Yes he is. He's as orange as your standard Mick who keeps horses in high
rise flats and lives on a diet consisting solely of carrots stolen from
    the allotments.

Bless his grubby v-neck jumper'd little cherubic socks.

Not really I just have a rudimentary grasp of public transport.

Before you know it I'll put on (more) weight, struggle with social
situations in a borderline Aspergers manner and be handing out London
    based transport advice...

  20. Oh for goodness sake. Sweller's done the tube so I'll do the buses.

You only need to get to Farringdon (bus 55 or 243 from Old St - jointly
every 6 mins even late in the evening) and get Thameslink to East
Croydon. The last time I looked there was a direct night bus N213 from
East Croydon to virtually your front door - oh look it still runs!
There are also late buses (up to 1 am) on the 407 and 154 from Croydon
town centre that go in your general direction

You can also get a 35, 47 or 48 from Shoreditch to London Bridge and
there are trains to East Croydon from there.

Alternatively you can get bus 8 from Great Eastern St / Shoreditch High
St direct to Victoria which won't take long late at night.

If push came to horrendous shove then you get the 243 (24 hour service)
to Aldwych and the N44 direct to Sutton (every 20 mins on a Friday
    night).

Getting around London late at night on main routes is not remotely
difficult. Alternatively free the moths and pay for a taxi home ;-)
