Alternator Rewinding?

Right, for a possible highly secret forthcoming winter trip I don't
think the R100RS standard alternator 230W is going to cut the mustard,
even with HID lights fitted. I see 3rd party upgrades for some $450.
Eeek. Is it possible to have an OE armature rewound to produce more
power? This is an area I've never considered before. And if so who
    would do it.

I'm more than slightly tempted to run a small car alternator off the
sidecar wheel feeding the 75Ah FOAD 2nd battery living in the boot
    space.

I thought this was supposed to be a hardy hard man trip to the cold, not an
electrically heated breeze to a warm tent?

  6. My other half had a limited edition Fiat Punto, any colour as long as it
    is black.
1600cc, twin OHC, FI, AC, electric everything.
Just after the warranty ran out so did the alternator.
I went to a small back street out fit in Canterbury who took it out
(without removing the engine as Fiat wanted to)
Rebuilt it their way to give a high out put current ( "with that current
demand all the time, no wonder it died" )
and did the job for peanuts compared to the main dealer who was just
    going to replace it.

    It's worth looking around.
