Not quite convinced. I seem to be able to read messages from other ppl, but
only one send out of about ten has been successful. Not sure what I'm doing
    wrong...

  4. This is what the "alt.test" newsgroup is for.

No, I'm not being patronising; it's a valid test system. If you successfully post to that group and your message propagates, you'll get two e-mails from remote servers advising you of your success - so there's no "hit 'n' miss" involved.

    Now, next point of order...

Could you get a better news client than outlook sexpress, pretty
    please?

It mangles your replies badly. (erm, maybe someone familiar with
windows can recommend a good one).

    Betty, I use Forte Agent.

Here's a download site: I prefer the older version; see "Agent 3.3"
near the bottom of the page.

    It's freeware.

  13. OE works just fine, as long as it's configured properly.

    Refer to http://yak.net.au/t1/oe.jpg

If the red marks aren't self-explanatory, ask and I'll explain.

Once you've set OE up accordingly, any problems anyone else experiences will be due to the dysfunctionality of their own software - so ignore their bleats.

    I see you just fine.
As someone has said, try Forte Agent but OE should be OK just the
same. Just be sure it's set up properly eg usernames and passwords,
server name, etc, all correct. I guess if I can see you, then setup
must be OK, but check just the same.

Yes, I've tried it - pretty good too. Agent works well for me (usenet
and email) and I didn't see any reason to change.

Limiting line lengths to 80chars (the lack thereof is what flagged to
me that you're also using OE) is just to aid readability. Lines
longer than that are hard to follow in a window of any size. Hence
why newspapers print their columns in... columns. Is there a line
length setting in OE (it might be under the dropbox that has the
    "quoted printable" encoding.
