    Greetings from Amazon.co.uk,

We've noticed that customers who have purchased or rated books by
Richard Morgan have also purchased Sleepover Girls Go Dancing -
Working Title (The Sleepover Club) by Harriet Castor...

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/0007264925/ref=pe_3421_10440621_pe_snp_925

Given that Richard Morgan is hard SF / tech noir, I think they need to
take a serious look at their pattern matching algorithm.

On the Richard Morgan note - looks like his next book is *fantasy*

I know, and it sounds like he might be ripping off Joe Abercrombie's
    style.

Really? A deja search of "richard morgan amazon" doesn't throw find
    anything.

heheh, I just got that as well.

I guess someone's been buying for their kids as well as themselves.

"Look - it's like this: if you really, really love Tolkein with a
firmly burning uncritical passion, then there's a good chance The
Steel Remains is going to upset you. If you really, really love all
those stories about simple, good-hearted farm-boys becoming princes or
wizards, then there's a good chance The Steel Remains is going to
upset you as well. And if you like your heroes masculine, muscular and
morally upright, well, then you could be in serious trouble here. "

    Doesn't sound too bad, actually.

I like Black Man, thought it was a good change from his Kovacs novels.

oh come on, you're being specious.

The subject of this thread is "amazon loses plot" and you complain
    about their pattern matching.

Which is what I posted about back in August last year.

Wow. I forwarded the email to Richard Morgan himself (via the address
on his web site), with a comment that maybe someone was staging an
elaborate joke, and he replied within 15 mins. He suspects that it is
staged, perhaps down to offence taken at his article about SF&F genre
    squabbling (http://www.richardkmorgan.com/article_soundfury.htm)

I complained last time they sent me some patently stupid recommendation.
You can guess what it achieved though.

what does "patently stupid" mean? None of the dictionary definitions
    of "patently" seem to fit.

    Do you mean "blatantly stupid"?

    err, yes.

Look, I'm going to roll out the "under stress" excuse again.

I'm being interviewed tomorrow to assess my "personal competency
    quotient"[1].

heh. Indeed. One of the things I'll be tested on, apparently, is how
well I function in an "environment of creative tension".
