Who here has seen AMCN distributed electronically, say in PDF format? I got one
of those Kindle e-book readers for Christmas and I'd like to be able to read it
and other magazines on it. Sad thing is that no Australian publication offers
their products as "e-books". Some have crappy RSS feeds. UK's MC News has a
reasonable feed but it's still only a UK publication.

    From http://www.theaustralian.com.au/business/newsstand-goes-digital-as-
    acp-bundles-its-mags-for-the-ipad/story-e6frg8zx-1225991332060

NINE Entertainment's ACP Magazines division has launched an iPad magshop
application to capitalise on strong demand for tablet computers.
The magshop app will offer digital versions of 16 magazines, including
Dolly, Cleo and Wheels on Apple's iTunes store, with more to be added in
what is believed to be the first digital newsstand for the Australian
    market.
The launch of the app comes at a critical juncture for the magazine
industry in general and ACP in particular which is battling falling
circulation. Recent figures from the Audit Bureau of Circulation in the
US suggest that demand for digital editions of some high-profile
magazines such as Vanity Fair and Wired dropped in the second half of
    last year.
For example, Vanity Fair sold 8700 digital editions of its November
issue, down from an average of about 10,500. The decline has led some
observers to conclude that many consumers bought magazine apps for the
novelty value but have grown tired of the digital editions.

..End of sidebar. Return to start of sidebar.
Head of ACP digital Carl Hammerschmidt said "natural customer churn" was
to be expected "given the excitement created by the launch of all these
new products". But he added: "We have seen very consistent numbers for
    our apps."
Mr Hammerschmidt said ACP had released the magshop app to coincide with
the strong demand for tablet devices such as the iPad. ACP will look to
release apps for other operating platforms, such as Google's Android, in
the future. "We want to give customers greater choice through digital
    distribution platforms," he said.
The apps offered through magshop will be straight-forward digital
versions of the print editions. These are different to stand-alone apps
for titles such as The Australian Women's Weekly and Gourmet Traveller
which offer additional features including slide shows, video and
    interactivity.
ACP has also launched apps for Women's Weekly and cookbook titles
    Classic Recipes and Slow Cooker.
The company will be closely watched by the market during the year. The
magazine division is expected to generate operating earnings of about
$150 million in 2010-11 but it is the slowest-growing part of Nine
Entertainment, which also owns the Nine Network, Ticketek and has
    interests in NineMSN and Carsales.com.
Nine's private equity owners are considering floating the business and
ACP's performance will have a direct bearing on how much investors will
    pay.

    :p

(I assume you are aware that you can make your own PDF's and MS offer a
free office add-on just for this)

Been following this on other forums and media. However, I neither own nor want
    an iPad.
Yes (I use Adobe Acrobat to do that, though).

The document needs to be in e-book format and e-reader friendly. PDFs aren't
that flash for reading on a Kindle. Not sure how ACP magazines can be converted
    to PDF anyway.

I found some foreign bike mags which were on PDF. However, either loaded
directly or converted to MOBI format they were difficult to read and to
navigate, not to mention slow to display the images.

I think that I'll stick to reading the paper versions. Gives me something to do
    while having a crap, anyway.

I wouldn't mind if someone archived the old Fred Gassit and Eric and Douglas
    cartoons.

    Comes standard with Word 2010.
No problem on my Sony Reader.
It is difficult to read newspapers and magazines whilst giving blood, which
I do every two weeks. The Sony reader is excellent for one handed operation.
I read books though, no magazines.

481 so far. I'm looking forward to the chocolates and champagne for 500,
which I hope to get to this year.

I gave blood once in the USA and they gave me a little official card that
said, in effect:- Dear police officer, this person gave blood on xx-xx-xxxx
and the fresh needle mark on his L/R arm is due to this. A bit scary
    actually.

Interesting site. However, it appears that it supports reading on a PC or iPhone
    or iPad.

I was looking for something that'd work on a Kindle DX.

Doesn't matter. I have subscribed it to a newsfeed from MCN (UK). Doesn't have a
lot of content but enough on a daily basis to keep up with GP news and the like.
