An amusing journey...

  1. .... up the M1 this evening. For once the roadworks were fairly clear, so
I trundled up lane 1 at a GPS-verified 40 and watched the world go by.

Particularly the young guy in the transit minibus who was blatting up at
60+ and carefully slowing down for all the cameras.

He is, I would think, about to get an expensive lesson on what a SPECS
camera looks like, and how it works.

Fair cheered me up, it did.

I just *love* it when you see them brake for the cameras as they
    approach.

  3. Heh, I had a bloke blast past me last week on the roadworks on the M6, ffs
they even put up big fucking signs saying average speed recording cameras.
Twas slightly ironic as he was in a brand new 06 registered burgandy bimmer
    M6 on the M6 !

Also saw a courier lowside an old gt550 (iirc) today, he was coming the
other way turning on to the A4 east just before Harrods. Plenty of people
were attending so I didn't stop as I was going t'other way.

(Newham is a right shitty place to get to when you live on this side of
London, anyone have any ideas on preferred routes that don't take you
    through the middle, s.circ . n.circ ? heading in from the M4).

North Circular, definitely - takes you the whole way from the M4 to
the A13, and so just back in a bit to Newham.

On a bike, the whole way around the North Circular will take you less
    than an hour.

I live near Brent Cross, usedter go to Newham a lot, and always went round
the 406. Took about half an hour to forty minutes, and had the benefit that
if it was stationary, I could hack off down the back roads. But, you still
have to get from the M4 to Staples Corner..... !

I'd nip off at the Hayes by pass and dodge rahnd all the back roads. But
    it's not pretty, eh?

Not as pretty as crossing Popes Lane with that gorgeous petrol station
on the left. Of course, this pales into insignificance when you have the
greenery on your LHS as you approach UR. Mine Dew, the speed camera is a
bit of a looker on the way uphill to the 406...

Oh, and then there's the one on the downhill stretch just before you get
to that rusty-faced woman that sells the flowers by the lights.
