...."why are they not leaving something I like alone and bloody
    remaking it pointlessly?"

"The Andromeda Strain" is being reborn as a tv mini series.

    Fuckwits.

Is nothing sacred? I saw the Coen Brothers re-imagining of The Ladykillers
the other day. It was dire. Really, *really* dire. I was expecting
something a little better from them and could *not* believe what they had
    done to it.

And then there's the remake of The Italian Job. Set in Los Angeles,
    ffs.

Mind you, not all remakes are disasters[1]. Bogart's The Maltese
Falcon and Jimmy Stewart's Destry Rides Again were both remakes,
    believe it or not.

[1] Most are, though, I agree.

There's another in the pipeline: "The Brazilian Job". I kid you not.

Sounds more like a remake of A Close Shave.

I managed to watch about 10 minutes. But as a rulem remakes are usually
bad. Nearly as bad as sequels, maybe with the exception of Mad Max 2
    ;-).

Going back to the topic, the only migration from film to TV that was an
improvement was Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Apart from Season 7 - when I ran
    out of tissues^W willpower.

Fondly remembers Julie Christie in "A for Andromeda".

I thought that was a great point actually, although they need to remake
good stories that were done badly.

What about the other way around? I'd liked to have seen a Xena movie,
with all the adult bits they usually apply ;-)

Cue "Devil's Gallop". Will they be doing "Journey into Space" next?

And it's not a remake either, more of an indirect sequel.

Firefly became Serenity on the big screen. That was a bit of a laugh.

I liked that movie and it could certainly do with a remake, but a
typical remake would involve too many car chases, mindless sex and
things blowing up. All I'd want in a modern production of it would be
some up-to-date technology and some better sfx.

I disagree - I don't think it needs remaking at all.

And. ****. Me. I've just discovered they're remaking Westworld too :-/
