What exactly do you need to do? Replace the captive nuts?
Rivnut guns are cheap enough, I think Marko paid less than
a tenner for a gun (like a rivet gun) with a handful of
rivnuts to go with it. Maybe putting some back in would
do the trick? If not, get a couple of nuts welded in?

We used the rivnut gun to fix a rivnut on the RGV subframe
as it was spinning - just put the rivnut gun onto the existing
rivnut, give it a couple of squeezes and it crimped back up.

If you want to give it a try, you can either pop over to mine
with the offending item one night/weekend, or I can see about
lending you the gun as you're only round the corner at work.

Considering that one of them was the chariot, I don't think I can
    convincingly disagree.

Ooh. That looks like just the sort of thing Motad must have
used to fit the damned things in the first place.
A loan would be really helpful, but I'm thinking a purchase
    might be an idea.

Where did you get yours from?

I came to work on mine today and all was well for the first 14 miles.
it was at that point I realised I wasnt wearing a rucksack and hence
    my computer was at home.

    ho hum.

got into work and realised my shoes were on the stairs next to the
rucksack so now I'm in a nice suit with bike boots.

The 'bay, of course. Same as this one:

I wouldn't recommend it for day-in-day-out use, but for the
few times you'll ever use it, it will do the job. You'll need
to buy some rivnuts to go with it, but have a search as you
should be able to find some cheap enough.

    Top stuff, Mr E.
Ordered, and ready to roll. Looks like it could be very useful.

There's plenty of Wing to re-attach before I get to the
collector box, so there's no rush.

    Now, to get some Rivnuts.

Question: what does M3/4/5/6 translate to in socket sizes?

    Answer: it depends.

    http://www.roymech.co.uk/Useful_Tables/Screws/Hex_Screws.htm

will give you the "standards", but in practice the cunning little
fuckers have a tendency to fir non-standard sizes as the mood takes
    them.

Does it matter if you're replacing the bolt with your own?

M6 is a 10mm spanner, which is probably what you want.
Other sizes can be found here:

    What he said.

Look for the A/F (Across Flats) figure, but they can vary depending
on the application. Lock nuts (Nyloc / plastic inserts) are usually
slightly larger (eg 12 or 13mm spanner on an M6) to take into account
    the extra space.

But in this case I think Dodger knows what size spanner he used to
take the bolts out, so needs to equate that into the correct size
rivnut to put back int' 'ole.

I very nearly used mine to get to work today but at 6.30 this morning
really couldn't be arsed with digging out the rucksack for carrying in
    my work troos & shoes.

    Tomorrow, definitely.

    Unless it's cold.

    Or raining.
