Copy from Topfield PVR to PC (or download hooky copy from torrent site,
whatever floats your boat), transcode to format suitable for PMP, watch
on PMP in comfort of own bed.

    Simples.

Right, its because the recordings are encrypted, and they need to
communicate with the head end to decrypt. Also the codes are changed
    every 20 secs.

The box *will* boot, but it will not show recordings.

Mine'll do 10 hours of video between charges, which should just about
see me through from 10pm to bedtime.

Ohm, you're there now are you?

In which case, it booted as far as the AP52 status code.

That's a bit pants. Surely the card in the box should be used for
encrypted. If it's really necessary to encrypt Eastenders.

    Thanks anyway.

You know, the guys said that would be the response.

No, the card is not used for encryption at all. Just how long do you
thing it would take for that to be hacked ?

We live in a world of one side wanting to be paid for what they do and
the other side wanting to tip off and pirate stuff.

TW/NTL/VM have the ability to rapidly change the encryption via the
    cable, so they do.

Its the way it is, go hassle Richard

Yep, only 10-15 mins from home. No ton the cable/broadband stuff,
working for corporate. Just happen to sit in same room as a few bods who
    know stuff about the boxes.

  10. You might also consider propane or NG as a fuel
if they're available. I've gotten better than 12,000
hours of operation out of a nice simpleminded,
cast iron, water cooled, flathead piped to the
propane tank for the house, running maybe
    100 hrs/mo.

A couple years after we sold the house it finally
burned a valve and the idiot new owner scrapped
it, but I figure he could have gotten another decade
    or two out of it.

Gaseous fuel engines last for a long time and if you
use propane, it's an easy fuel to store for long periods
of time. Also cheaper than diesel engines.

Ages, given the last sky card ran for 5+ years, and each was software
locked to an individual settop box.

    a) doesn't mean it wasn't hacked, IIRC you could buy them on the street.
    b) TBH, I don't give a shit as I don't have a V+/Sky+ and even nif I did
I would not bother getting a hacked card.

    Or....

Know a bloke called Jason who comes round and fits them for free (when
replacing the stepper motors for 300 quid all in). he has a technique
that involves no cutting or drilling (just some very bent screwdrivers)
and does the complete job in 2 hours. Highly reccommended.
