Fun or folly?
The last one I did with an angle grinder (lost keys) took less than 60 secs and it was a big bastard,
Try AG'ing a cold water tank in an enclosed attic. I had tried it with a FOAD reciprocating saw, but his caused the tank sides to bang like a drum, and was even more teeth chatterin/nerve wracking/eardrum piercing.. AG, job done, and 2 days of checking the attic for any untoward smoke, and choking the burning zinc out of my lungs. Not doing that again ... Paul.
Angle grinding is like childbirth; you'll have forgotten by the next time. New padlock has been bought and meets a most demanding spec - 4 keys so little chance of needing to get the grinder out and very heavy duty so it'll be more fun when I do
I'd have done it with a 1" chisel and a 4lb lump hammer. There's something a lot more satisfying about using brute strength to smash something open rather than using a grinder.
There isn't much of anything that's REAL fun if it only lasts 2 seconds. At least that's what the wife says. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
If you use the 1mm discs, they'll slice through just about anything in **** all time with barely any smoke. Not the most entertaining time with an AG, but efficient enough to make up for the lack of fun. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Oh, cool, didn't know they existed. What flavours do they come in ? I have 4.5" and 7" AG's Cheers Paul.
Ah, didn't have one of those back then, but I do now. Air chisels rock, but they're not very neighbour friendly. I'd need a helluva hose (oo err) though to get from the compressor (in the garage rafters) to the (house) loft. P.
Yeah, and make sure your insurance is up to date. Whassat, insurance company might try to wriggle out of paying if owner is daft enough to set fire to own house with inappropriate tool? Surely not.
4.5's are the only ones I've seen. Machine Mart flog the 115mm jobbies. IIRC their prices work out at about 1 quid per disc, but well worth it IMO. -- Beav VN 750 Zed 1000 OMF# 19
Nothing like a little danger, biker boy ... I have 2 industrial size fire extinguishers handy too, 1 water, 1 foam. Can't be too careful ... Paul.
