No, but ethernet backhaul means that at least the bottleneck is moved further
upstream in a cost-effective way. The money's never really going to be in
giving people, individuals, unfettered fat pipes to the wider internet, of
    course ...

TBH as MCI Norn Iron, at our wholesale rates, we just about can. Once
I have the fibre route in place to connect Belfast to INIX and LINX it
    will a deffo.
I'm very interested in the Homechoice crowd you highlighted. As we
will soon be BT's only effective infrastructure competition in NI,
with our own duct and fibre around all the population centres, LLU is
    inevitable )

  4. I have Mozilla here at home as well, so no probs. But like I said, I
    reckon I'll go for Bulldog.

  5. Er, we post at the bottom here, old chap.

And I'm afraid I have indeed cancelled my order. I have never come
across such a sorry combination of cock-ups and a complete lack of
    understanding of them.

  7. True.

Sad, really. I want 8MB, but there was a combination of five separate
issues, and it's worth listing them here.

    1. Their website doesn't support Macs, so it's impossible to change your
user ID to a 'real" emai addie. If this can be done by phone, nobody
    volunteered how to do it.

    2. My user ID was not recognised by their system, and they had to find
me from my landline phone number.

    3. I was told I had to get a MAC (migration number) from my existing ISP
(Pipex). This I did. This automatically cancels one's existing ISP
    account, with 30 days' notice.

    4. The paper confirmation said, in bold type: Do Not Cancel Your
Existing Service". Given this conflict of instructions, I rang, and got
passed through three departments, none of which could explain what I had
to do. So I rang Pipex, and got offered a cheap 2MB service with a
    capped download limit.

    5. The paper bill I got said I'd be paying £40 a month. I thought I was
on £29.50 p/m. I'd forgotten that the phone line went with it, and this
was another £10.50. Incredibly, the paper order confirmation did not
itemise this, and even more incredibly, did not say whether VAT was
included or additional. And nobody pointed out to me what the "missing"
£10.50 was. Oh, and I was told there weren't two free months anyway,
although this was on the paper I held.

Ay this point, not knowing how much I was paying, nor for what, with a
load of staff who couldn't supply answers, and a website that didn't
work with my Mac/OS/browser, I just thought "**** it" and cancelled.

  8. Doubtless you'll spend the next 6 months trying to recover money from
them as they apply debits to your credit card / bank account.
