The East Lancs (A580), the final NSL on it , between the M6 and the diddy
Haydock roundabout has fallen. 60Mph east bound, with a 40Mph section West
    bound.

    Cunts.

So, not content with putting as many traffic lights as is possible on
a dead straight road with perfect visibility, now the final insult ..

*the* most tedious road in the known universe.

M6/M74. The only reason I put up with it was for what was at the other
    end.

    In Larkhall?

You're having a laugh. Only two people I know from there are remotely
    civilised, Bee and her mum.

I remember back in the early 60's, I could ride the full length of the East
Lancs at whatever speed I could coax out of whatever I was riding or driving
    and not break the law.

At that time, it wasn't NSL, it was simply "De-restricted" and there was no
    speed limit whatsoever.

    Isn't progress fucking wonderful?

The M6/M74 can be made quite interesting. Just travel in the late evening
and keep the speed at 110+ and you will find the journey keeps you awake.

That's about the time and speed I was travelling at, and it bored the
    tits off me

I've done the run so often, I don't notice.

I hate the bit from Moffat to the A702, takes for ever.

Scenery is nice though, especially at sun up in the winter.

Not for me. There's a sort of slightly sweeping, swooping bit somewhere
between J13 & J15 that relieves the monotony slightly and tends to find
    the cruise control[1] overridden.

I haven't done it on a bike since I had the R90/6 and it was still just
    the A74.

[1] Being one of the few motorways I use in the UK that, on most
occasions I find myself on it, it's worth engaging cruise control for a
    decent length of time.
