Anyone know the current situation with ANPR cameras?
Do they just check tax or are the MOT and insurance databases linked yet?
Where are the fixed cameras? Which police cars have ANPR?

Just curious as I know of a local bastard who thinks insurance is optional
and who really deserves to get his car crushed....

"A person I know" recently realised he's been driving around for the

matter has, of course, been rectified.

I'm convinced that one of the rozzers on these fly on the wall police
type programs said that it checks the "insurance database", before then
quoting the number of uninsured cars on the list on the PC in his car.
Would suggest that they do check insurance.

Seems to be most traffic cars (big estate things) that have the ANPR
    cameras.

You can check if a car's on the database on http://www.askmid.com so the
    data is easily available.

I seem to remember a project at Experian when I was there that dealt
with this (Experian bought out the company in Aldermaston that ran the
    MID database).

I definitely remember that my car VRN got into the test data which was
used when the system was going live as the so I had loads of logged
police searches on my car - crapped me out when I noticed!
Fortunately I scrapped it (well, it fell apart) before it became an
    issue.
