Can elderly ones be retempered? Elderly in this case, you guessed it, is
    46 years old.

The car has had new springs, shocks and anti roll bar bushes - and the
little washer/cup things that die on the drop links - but the front still
wallows and bottoms out on cornering but is fine under braking.

Springs and shocks etc are cheap but the roll bars aren't.

  4. We have one round here. In fact there is a few in Essex but most of them
are just farriers suppliers these days but the odd proper blacksmith does
exist and they do good business still.

Seemed pretty friendly on the phone and said he'd re-harden the roll bar
for ?35 - got to be worth a go for that price.

Why would it lose its temper? Assuming it hasn't been bent to hell,
and isn't rusted or corroded, does steel lose its temper or get
    brittle over time?

It gets a bit miffed if you don't talk nicely to it.

Think of coil springs. They age and sag a little over time.
I'd expect they would be heat treated (soaked) then re-tempered accordingly.

As with so much in life
    accordingly.

If only the same was true with people.

    Speak for yourself.

I'm 48 and there's nothing wrong with my temper
