Any 'Elite' fans in the house?

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Simon Wilson, Sep 9, 2008.

  1. It was a joke.. And since everything is always your fault (unless I've
slipped a meme or two) therefore you must be a thargoid. Because in Elite
they appear out of nowhere, blow your ship to crap and then disappear
again. Hence - in Elite everything is *their* fault (this is - of
course a *huge* leap of illogic but lets just gloss over it for now
    eh?).

Ergo - you are a thargoid. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I should stop trying to be clever. It doesn't suit me. Maybe I'll just
    stick to boring and predictable.

You sure that wasn't an option to be turned on? I distinctly remember
newtonian physics in the original. (At least on the PC)
    /me shrugs. Just a skill.

I thought "Privateer 2: The Darkening" was quite similar, with more of a
plot, but even that's something like 12 years old and probably not worth
the hassle of setting up these days.

I'm impatiently waiting for a decent Elite type game to crop up on
either console or PC. I liked Privateer, but even that's going back a
    bit.

I originally played Elite on the Speccy, then got a 128k version (with
    lenslok anti-piracy system). I hadn't heard about an Elite 4 and I've
given up with the 360 after seeing nothing other than mainly shooty or
racy games, apart from Fable 2 which I might have a look at.

  8. Not worth the subscription IMHO, I played it for a few months before
    losing interest.

Do you remember that game where there was a cup fastened to a ball by a
length of string and you had to get the ball in to the cup? Man, wasn't
    that one great?

The original Spectrum version had that.

It was a PITA for me, 'cos my TV was bigger than they'd designed the
    system to cope with.

    Now you're talking!

But seriously, to misquote Jesus (I think) - now I'm a man, I've put
childish things behind me. Apart from riding [1] big fast motorbikes,
    of course.

They had one when my little sister was at my old upper school, but
no-one was ever allowed to use it. I did see it once, but a cover was
    swiftly dragged back over it.

Well, maybe. I think there's a specialist term for someone who
