How anal are they being about the size of hand baggage?

Are they sticking exactly to the 45cm x 35cm x 16cm limit or am I going to
    get away with a slightly larger bag measuring 45cm x 30cm x 22cm

I flew last Wednesday when they had started allowing som ehand
baggage, but most people weren't taking anything more than a carrier
bag's worth or a handbag. BA did have their baggage measuring wotsits
all over the place though, so I suspect that anything vaguely large
would have been forced to be fitted into it.

Best thing, really, is to check it all in. Makes everyone's life
    easier.

Was it a hoop thing? - I've a floppy 'pilot' case which is only a slightly
larger volume but 10cm wider and meaning I can get everything in with a bit
of judicious packing. If not it's back to the laptop bag.
I would - but it's a couple of grands worth of camera gear and a laptop, so
the likelyhood of being reunited with it all present and correct at the
    other end is unlikely.

No, it's a 3d rectangular frame into which the bag has to fit,
effectively checking all three dimensions against a flat edge.
That's probably the best idea. Of course, I don't know if they're
actually using this, nor if they've applied this to other airlines.
Best to check with your airport/airline first.
Have faith. 99.n% of luggage gets through unmolested. I've frequently
checked my laptop and other valuables through with no probs.

Yes. Three times so far. Once on Monday and twice on Tuesday. I had no
problems/limits at all. From France, no liquids are allowed in hand
baggage on flights to the UK, USA and Israel.

Mind you, I wasn't anywhere near the UK.

  6. Our company insurers aren't insuring laptops, buggrit. And I'm off to
    Ecuador on Monday.

So if it's nicked they have to bear the loss themselves. What's the
    problem?

Company's saying "You insure it yourself", unbelievably.

    NUJ is not impressed....

Don't take it and tell work to stuff it.

The wife flew to Sweden this (Wednesday) morning at 10;00am. No liquids in
hand luggage (or mascara if you're so inclined). You can take laptops,
phones and a whole slew of other electronic gizmo's though, but they're
checked frst. You have to take your shoes of for them to be x-rayed too, bt
it's all pretty much as it was apart from this "no liquids" thing.
Manchester 'port had a cardboard box you put your hand baggage in. If it
fits, it's Ok (apparently). A little squeezing should see it go in the box,
but if you've got an analy retnentive twat on the counter, you could be
bollocksed. Safer to go with the 45/35/16 size.

Why do I occasionally get the impression that you're working for a right set
    of cunts?
Funny that. Neither would I be.

  13. No, it's mine.

Company has a laptop for use when travelling. I prefer to use my own
iBook because it's a better machine and it's customised to how I like
    it.

In that case they're completely right.

Use theirs, or consider the situation your own problem.

FFS, give us the complete story then. You can't expect them to insure
    your own stuff, can you?

  18. Well, that's it, basically. We have one crappoy company laptop for
    travellers.

Lots of us have our own laptops.

Some twonk in our Brussels office left a company laptop at a conference.
Just forgot about it, and the insco has said: "That's it, no laptops
    covered on our insurance now."

  19. If I was robbed while on company business, and had my clothes and
possessions stolen, I'd expect the company to cough. As, I suspect,
    would you.

See other reply for why laptops aren't covered.
