This would be the Adelphi in Liverpool?

Let me have a week or two to work out a way to appear shocked.

I fear I might have to accept responsibility if it were my bag. I'd
argue the case (1) if I'd been put in a position where I had to eat
somewhere with unsecured car parking (2) by a stupid work schedule but
if the bag was hidden from view I'd expect either my home contents
insurance or my car insurance to cover it.

  3. That's the one. I didn't think it would need further identification. I have
*never* stayed there voluntarily. The other cesspit is the Norbreck Castle
in Blackpool. Actually, I've not found a single decent hotel in Blackpool.
Decent food, yes. Decent hotel, no.

I stop in hotels every week of the year and if the place looks even
slightly dodgy then I leave anything valuable locked in the van at
work when I'm away from the hotel.

I usually leave the laptop in it's bag and that inside my normal bag
which is left zipped shut but if someone was nosing around they'd soon
find it. The good thing is that most hotel staff know that it's a
manky engineering contractor in the room and daren't touch anything
    without gloves on.

  6. Then take your own kit but make sure you tell someone else what you're
taking and why you're taking it so they understand why the company
    stuff has been left behind.[/QUOTE]

I always do. The irony is that they now ask me to take my camera kit to
our conferences, so I can take pix that are then used in our company
    brochures.

They're taking the piss big time. Do they accept liability for any
loss or damage to your cameras?

My employer supplies the 'capital equipment' in that they supply
machinery and some measuring equipment but the rest is up to me to
bring along myself. As a so called skilled man I can accept this and
do so, but I also bring along a lot of small pieces of kit that are
invaluable once or twice a year (1).

I used to work for another company that had a limit of £300 insurance
cover on personal tools. That wouldn't cover the cost of the bloody
toolboxes, let alone the contents. Needless to say my personal tools
never left the premises and because of this certain tasks were harder
to carry out and the service to the customer suffered as a
    consequence.

Bad form etc but the footnote should have been:

    (1) Until the likes of a certain Mr Champion relieves me of them.

I think he still bears a grudge because I swiped his only Snap-On
socket off him, even though I later returned it.

The Umist SU bailed out of NUS as it was a waste of time and money. A
whole lot of nothing was done, and the discounts were about the only
thing going for it, as I recall.

I don't know if the merged manchester uni is or isn't though.
