as per subject - toying with the idea of a lot of different bikes at
the moment, and one is the R1100S - I like the looks, and the concept,
but I'm not convinved I'll like the boxer engine coupled with
    sportsbike layout.

Failing that, I might still buy a Kawasaki W650 and grow a beard.

Did you see recently when I warned (Gyp was it?) about the hideous harsh
vibration from those fuckers. Great bike otherwise and ok for short
journeys. Ubber high footpegs but you have short pins.

Owners mainly ask ridiculous prices (and keep them) but every so often one
*has* to be sold and autotrader, eBay or the BMWOC pass them on for under
    £3k.

At the risk of becoming repetitive the ST4S is a better bike in every
possible way, but much harder to find.

    It was and you did.
    They do, and they do.
It probably is, and because the other is, it's probably irrelevant.

There are always one or two around somewhere though

they're not that short actually, relative to my overall height (or
    lack of it).
yes - the one I was looking at was just over £3K
See, whilst I understand exactly what you mean, I really do not want
    another fully faired bike.

there's a decent enough looking one on Autotrader at the moment.

However, having just (almost) sold the 'blade, the last thing I want
is another fully-faired sports-oriented bike. I want, well, lots of
things - I want something not too quick, not too slow, minimal
    fairing, and fairly reliable.

"Common sense" tells me to buy another B12, however, one of my other
criteria is that I want something that's not common as muck, which is
why I'm looking at things as diverse as the R1100S, and the Triumph
Thruxton (one of which I have a test ride booked for Saturday
    morning).

Well I suppose the R1100S isn't really fully faired but I hate the whole
integrated tank/half fairing thing and it's hideous under the skin. If you
don't want fully faired then the ST4 is out though, which is a shame as the
996 engine is such a doozy and the handling/braking components/performance
so good..... and no white finger/foot. The ST also looks a bit gash minus
    the lowers.

well, as I said, I'm testing a Thruxton on Saturday - I may absolutely
hate it in which case everything will change again.

What I really need is unlimited money.

One of the architects in the office above me has just got a 1098. It
    looks nice.

    Doesn't it though.
A 1098s is far beyond what I'd pay for a bike though and like the 998's they
wont ever come down to 4kish money.
