Since I can't order a new one and ebayers are reluctant to ship to my
address[1] does anyone have one that they would like to swap for beer
tokens? Doesn't have to be new or high spec, just so long as it works.

[1]Paypal doesn't recognise it and won't let me add it[2], though they
did last time I was overseas.
[2]I could get it shipped to my father's place but, for obvious
reasons, I'm reluctant to pay twice for the postage.

I'll be ebaying one in around 2 1/2 weeks but last time I looked they
were going for 50-80 quid, if you can wait that long we could maybe do a
    deal.

Just flogged my Sky+ box for 20 quid on the bay.

Finally lost patience with Sky and will be moving to Virgin when we move
    house.

  3. That was well done! There's a faulty one on there now going for that
price and a good one with two hours left at 82.

If you're not desperate to get one you could order it for shipping to
our place then collect at Chimay.

Thanks for that but, if things go to plan[1], we'll be in the US at that
    time.

[1]If the septics grant me a visa tomorrow morning and the F-i-L
recovers sufficiently from major surgery that we can leave him alone.

    :

how old is he? Does he qualify for a subsidised Sky installation for the
    digital switchover thing?

  9. I bought in to HD via the Tesco deal (buy a box with no subs and just
have your existing card paired). About a month later Sky started a
90,000 box recall of their Pace units which included mine - they
replaced it with a refurbed Thomson which was faulty from the start,
they replaced that with another refurbed Thomson with the same fault,
when I threatened to leave they replaced with a new Thomson which has
been fine. About a week later they rang telling me my warranty had
expired, and we got a letter this week telling us the same thing.

Add to this the fact that Setanta is free on Virgin and when I add
cheaper and faster broadband and cheaper phonecalls into the deal it
makes sense for us to go with Virgin. I could sign up to the Sky
broadband and phone but Virgin is still faster and cheaper.

I've got one. I've got an inkling that something's not quite right
with the modem - When I first got it, I tried to setup the remote
record but couldn't get it working. A few calls to Sky seemed to
indicate that it didn't dial out as often as they expected, but apart
    from that it's tickety-boo.

It's been sat in a crate in the garage for almost a year, so I couldn't
tell you the make or model etc.

As has been said, even faulty ones go for £40 plus. Make me an offer.

That's the big downer with VM. They carry BBC HD, and quite a bit of HD
on demand content (PAYG films etc) but no other HD channels. Shame
really as the V+ box is nice enough and their broadband really rocks.

Loads of the PPV movies are now HD which is nice. But yes, it would
be good if more of the "normal" channels such as Discovery had the HD
versions. There's only so much you can watch on BBC HD.

What's nice with sky is all the movie channels have an HD equivalent.
(He says, waiting for his HD box to arrive in "3-6 weeks")

  15. They don't carry Sky Sports HD? That could be a bummer, I'm used to
watching sport in HD, and until the firmware upgrade got released for
the Thomsons[1] I was constantly annoyed with watching champ league in
    shit def.

I wish MotoGP was on Eurosport HD and F1 was on BBC HD.

[1] You can manually program the box to get ITV HD, which you can't with
    any other make/model.

  16. It'll be a refurb, when it arrives if it's in a brown unmarked box it's
    refurbed. Good luck with it.

Check avforums for the latest info on what's going on with Sky - I have
to admit to not being on there for a few weeks.
