Actually it was a friends wife who was driving but my brother was
present and was a bit anti the whole idea of pushing my luck like
    that.

Mandy (the driver) was a bit silly herself and her token gesture
towards the health of her unborn child when pregnant was to only
second routes rather than lead them. I'm pretty certain she was still
climbing up to E4 until the bulge pushed her so far out from the rock
that she felt at risk off falling, somewhere around 7 months iirc.

I'm surprised you think it's that stupid because it doesn't rank that
highly on my list of ways to risk injury. You only do that sort of
thing when you *know* you can do it with a high degree of confidence
in your ability and in that sense it's no different to you racing on
    the Island.

go and talk to the Catholics.

I never fell far enough to hurt me when I used to do that sort of
    shit.

Climbing on rock never really scared me whereas climbing on ice did on
many occasions. Caving never scared me until I did it where lights
    don't work very well.

yeah, I know what you mean - I'm very comfortable doing things on a
bike that plenty of other people find scary, and it's all about
confidence in abilities. But I'm scared of heights, FFS!

    OK, move along then. :)

Anyhow, the main difference between climbing and motorcycling is that
in the case of climbing, the safe version in a restricted environment
is the one which is cheaper and is easily available. I can get my bike
and ride right now, but I can't get my gear and go climb a mountain.
Just like I can't simply suit up and go ride on a track if it strikes
my fancy. A pity, really. A private motorcycle track along with a
private mountain would make for a nice Christmas gift, I guess. ;-)

    Gurl.

I'm scared of high speeds but I manage to suppress that fear.
