    (That's the Melbourne Melbourne)

My Trump engine has decided to join Doug's on the "inert" list.
    Very sad.

Call past George's place on the way, I'm sure he has a spare in his shed.

Jezuz Clem have you been running down black cats or something ? That's
the, what, 4th mishap that bike's had since you bought it isn't it ?

I gather by the subject line you've given up and bought something more
    reliable in Melbourne ?

Dare I suggest you consider paying for it to be shipped after the last
fiasco (or should I be shutting up and keeping my unasked for advice to
    myself ?)

Ha ha; no I haven't bought something more "reliable" in Melbourne John... I
was just taking baby-steps and leaving the "anyone need a bike ridden back
from Melbourne" post until after I secured part 1!!

    It's a big medium John.
I damaged something in the valve-train when I was trying to start it with
ether-spray 6 months ago and it kicked-back. It's been clattering at idle
    ever since.
I drained the oil but found no bits so I convinced myself all was OK.
Tonight I found out I've been deluding myself when it went PING.

Errm if the parts are small enough to come back on a bike then they'll
def be cheaper to ship. Even on a CB250 you'd have to be looking at
nearly a couple of hundred bucks worth of juice there and back.

Or are you just trying to go for a ride and it's got nothing to do
with the blown up trumpy ?

(is "gone ping" a dropped valve seat or what ?)

Fark John; we're approaching levels of misunderstanding that are almost
    George-ian!

"Part 1" meant the "Anyone need a bike ridden to Melb" post. If I managed
to secure that then the part 2 post would've been "anyone need a bike ridden
    back?"

The ride is the GP trip (which I've been co-ordinating with Biker-Betty and
which was planned for this Tuesday at sparrowfart).

The "PING" is undiagnosed at this stage but I'm thinking cam-chain-tensioner
and cam-chain-guides first. (after that the really-serious weeping starts!)

If it is only cam chain bits that could be fixed this weekend.

By a competent mechanic if the bits are available; yes.
I'm still gonna' give it a try though!

Admit it, Clem... White men can't jump and Poms no longer build real
bikes. Maybe you should try a Korean one next? <grins, ducks, and
