    Don't

If you want a cruiser bike for short arses then spend your £3k on a used
Yamaha XV535. It will last longer than that pile of shit and you will be
able to source spares and aftermarket parts for decades to come.

I had a GV125 (from new) for about 18 months, then my younger brother
had it for a couple of years before selling it on. It was kept outdoors
when I had it and, being a 125, spent a lot of time being ridden on or
near the rev-limiter, and it was robust during all that time. The only
problem I ever recall was the reg/rec failing after about 6 months,
which was fixed under warranty. Other than oil and filter changes, that
was all that was ever done to it. If I was ever in the market for that
sort of thing again, I'd have another.

The only downside was the dealer "network", which was almost
non-existent at the time (10 years ago or so). If there's somewhere
fairly local that you can take it to in case of warranty issues, then
    fine.

That's pretty good considering you'd never heard of the company before 11
    o'clock yesterday.

Hyosung have a better reputation than the myriad Chinese brands that
are popping up, and I doubt that reliability will be a major problem.
But yes, if the nearest dealer for parts and stuff is 50 miles away,
what's the point? Buy a used Yamaha 250 or as Wessie suggests, an
XV535, which really is one of the best small-to-medium sized Jap
cruisers I've ever ridden. Lovely bike. Just tends to dissolve in
    winter.

Yeah, I think that's their biggest issue; they're lumped in with all
those cheap low-quality Chinese bikes and they're actually in a league
    somewhere above that.

Maybe they should re-brand and call themselves something less
oriental-sounding, or maybe just something more jap-sounding.

Maybe, just maybe, they're quite proud of being Korean. After all,
Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki didn't rename themselves to sound
English, they just plugged away until they got things right and cracked
the market. And good on 'em for doing that.

  10. What do you suggest, "The glow in the dark motorcycle company."

    And introducing our new
    fragshp model, "The Godzirra"

That's what they've done in the USA, S&T are selling them as Hyosung
and also as ATK now, with ATK branded bikes supposed to be showing
up in H-D dealerships, no less.

    http://www.othermakes.net/2010/05/27/atk-and-hyosung-enter-4-year-33000-unit-deal/

PS I just spotted this howler:

"ATK has been a pioneer in innovation and technology advances,
including being the first motorcycle company to introduce fuel
    injection technology beginning in 1991."

I think Kawasaki, for one, beat ATK to the punch by more than ten
    years.

there seem to be some very high prices being asked for XV535s. 1997 bikes
with prices pushing £3k. I haven't checked Ebay's sold listings but are
they really fetching that sort of money?

  13. Oh yes. Cruisers, especially low mileage ones that have never seen the
rain and only slightly more frequently seen the road owned by a short
legged bitc^H^H^Hurd with a fetish for chrome, command downright silly
prices at this time of the year.

Lifestyle shit innit, folks will mortgage their souls for a shiny toy.

My local dealer has an absolute belter - looks brand new - 535 from,
IIRC, 1998 or thereabouts with a £3k+ price tag. I must staress,
though, that it's the best I've seen in years: quite exceptional. You
can pay a lot less, yes.

I'm not sure what's worse, putting fake chrome on a bike, or bragging
    about it in public.
