As an aside, I've dealt with wiring closets that looked like the first
picture of the lead-ion collision.

 

I'm still here, not evaporated in a puff of quark-gluon plasma, _yet!_

Anyway, as we type they are gearing up for another run, with four
bunches of lead ions in each beam[1]. These displays should be going back
live again soon (midnight, maybe?):
