Just watched it having read and enjoyed the book a while back. I thought
the film was very entertaining and a reasonable adaptation of the book.

As time travel movies go, not bad IMHO.

Not seen the film, but the book was brill.

As is "Not a penny more, not a penny less" - my last book.

As is "Cruel Sea" - my current book.

  3. I liked the book, but the film sucked IMHO. Utter, utter crap, risibl
script, lousy acting and (rather like Jurassic Park) omitted all the
    vaguely interesting scientific stuff.

Fair enuf. Maybe I liked it because the battle scene reminded me of Age
of Kings and deflected attention away from the acting. The cast was a
fairly strong one in a B list stylie but I must admit it was a bit
wooden. As for the science stuff I guess they figured that it would make
the movie too long or not as widely popular.

Mind you given that it pretty much went straight to DVD, they could have
put the sciencey stuff in and gone for the "geek appeal" a bit more :)

Same here, the prolonged "WTF is happening?" in the book is a large part
    of the appeal, I think.

Now, anyone seen the game of it? *That* was dire.

    Really?
I thought the book was pretty good but the film was bland , removed most of
the science behind the time travel , and had some very odd casting choices.

It passed a couple of hours but I have no desire to rewatch it at all.

It didn't go straight to DVD - it was released with some hype and completely
    bombed at the box office
because it was rubbish and no one would pay to see it.

Excellent book but haven't seen the film. Am I right in thinking they
changed the script slightly so it was one of the characters fathers
who went back initially and not the prof?

TBH, I don't know - I haven't seen it - as you say, the book was enjoyable.

I know it panned because I have access to the specific sales figures, plus I
remember the conversations about it in the (other) office.

Yep. I can lend you the DVD if you want a look, well once it's done the
rounds with people who read the book in the office and were intrigued.
