my posting name's just a variation of my actual first name, coined by
an ex-cow-orker about 1988, well before I actually used it in any
sense online.

[0] a quick google would suggest I only ever posted to that newsgroup
twice, under my false "J_Kennedy" persona.
[1] though in 1996 I actually was a VMS. OSF1 and SCO sysadmin[2], as
it happens.
[2] qualified and everything!
