Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th Feb next year.

If you don't know what the Dragon is then move on straight away
because it'll be of no interest to you but if you do know and want to
    go then chip in now.

I know it's been sanitised since it's heyday when it was *the* hard
bastards rally in the UK but it's still got to be worth a look and if
it's a bit tame then it's up to us to make it more 'interesting'. I
quite fancy going because I'm not planning on going to the Elefant
this year (better things to do) and it'd be rude not to do a winter
    rally of some description.

Everything has a downside and the problem with the Dragon is that
it's in Wales (N.Wales FFS) but that's just a minor problem and can be
solved by sneaking in under the cover of darkness and then creating a
diversion when it's time to go home. I'm almost certainly going and
for those of us that've been here a while you get the bonus of meeting
up with another ex-ukrm'er who usually goes. I'll not grass him up
because I haven't emailed him to see if he's going again but he's a
decent bloke who likes his beer and motorbikes.

    Come on then....

TBF, it wasn't that hard most years. FFS, I did it one year on a
Suzuki B100P. More likely to piss down with rain than be icy even
    before global warming.

Even so, I'll not be joining you.

The dragon is to blame for me having a bike at all.
I used to go for an underage drink in one of the pubs in Capel Curig as
often as possible. The rally was held there a few times during the
period and all sorts of insanity went on there. There is also an army
camp down the road so you'd end up with a bar full of climbers, bikers
and squaddies (occasionally the same person) all getting drunk, singing
and fighting. We would just stare wide eyed and pissed while being badly
    influenced.....

Wet and windy, I spent 8 days in North Wales in August, never again.

Sounds like Glastonbury, but with better facilities. Andy doesn't even
camp at the borderline arctic experience that is the BOSM so I'm
surprised he's touting something like this.

I think that weekend's just become clear, work-wise, so I'll at least
    think about it.

No. It's not exactly very far and it'll be full of people who think
they're being manly but in reality they'll just be damp.

In other news - very unlikely I'll be going to America in January [1] so
"the other trip" is very much on.

[1] Various reasons but mainly based around my incompetence and having
    too much work on.

If it's pissing down I'll not bother going. There's no ferry to book
so it'll only be the cost of the rally ticket down the pan.
That's good from one perspective and not so good from another. It's
certainly going to be 'entertaining' if nothing else. I've got a few
stupid ideas to run past you guys so you can either encourage me or
    act the girl.

I want to try out some new kit before setting off on our next great
adventure and camping in your own back garden is for kids.
    I'm stunned.

My garden is too small to put up the (2 man) tent.

    That caught a few.

Book your tickets and then someone can post arrangements for meeting
up a week before the rally.

If I go I'll almost certainly be getting there late on the Friday
night but if I load the bike up the weekend before I should be able to
get there in time to pitch a tent and get pissed.

I should add that it's a tiny bit more refined now.(1)
The club who organise went to quite great lengths to keep the actual
location fairly secret until very close to the date.
I haven't been since the eighties and biking has changed a lot since
then so maybe they don't see the need anymore.

    1. We see 'em stocking up on wine in the local suppliers...

That's missing the point though when you consider it's a bike rally
where camping in the cold is a rather important part of the weekend.

You've got heating in north Wales now? Blimey, the place is starting to
    sound almost civilised!
