You might have a looooong wait!

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/6283455.stm

    Cargo ship aground.

"According to the MCA, 50 coastguards are out looking for the missing
40ft long containers, which include one containing hundreds of
thousands of pounds worth of BMW motorbikes."

    Oops.

  2. Well they'll be pretty much fucked by now.

""We don't want anyone to approach the containers, if they see them
    just ring the coastguard.""

Nothing to do with the fact that anyone finding a container can claim
the salvage rights to it then.

It'll be more to do with the ammonia pollution from the broken piss
canisters you get with a new BMW bike.

  5. Just imagine how much money you could make by finding that container
and breaking the bikes for useable spares. Never a shortage of
    desperate customers.

  7. I saw that and grinned. I bet the carrot-crunchers down there are
scrambing to pick up the flotsam, as they've done for hundreds of years.

    Some will be disappointed, though.

"What you got, TreSurgeon? Valuable chemicals? Car parts?"

"Nar. Just some 'orrible ol' boike, loike moi one that's been stuck in
the workshop this last six months."

    "Throw it back, then."

    "Aye."

  9. Are you utterly sure? Because the cops are saying the Reciever of Wrecks
must be informed and the items may be kept until the RoW wants them
back. Is that just so much bullshit?

  10. The RoW was on TV this morning, saying that she has to be notified of any
items washed up, and that they must be handed over to her.

  16. I don't believe so.

Flotsam, jetsam and ligan come under the law of the sea.

The stuff on the beach would be flotsam (It wasn't chucked of by the
crew jetsam and wasn't buoyed for collection later ligan).
As such it is the owner of the item must be informed of the find, not
RoW (it is not a vessel) and as long as the finder was not under any
legal obligation to salvage the item the owner must either grant the
finder the ownership or pay salvage which is traditionally 50% of the on
    board price of the item.

A lot of spin and illegal 'protection' being used there.

Heh, BBC in sensationalism shocker, or maybe just
their translation department got it wrong...

Branscombe Police's Pc Steve Speariett said ...
"Around 50 BMW motorbikes were carried off the beach
    last night,"
    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/devon/6287457.stm

    BUT

PC Steve Speariett ... "Around 15 BMW motorbikes were
carried off the beach last night."

15 or 50 ... thats still a lot of bikes to pluck from the surf!
