Isn't that kinda what a Blackbird's meant to do?

    Don't tempt him.

Three blokes I've known have committed suicide in the last 12 months.
All were in the early 40s. One was someone I went to school with - he
wrestled with bi-polar all his adult life, so it wasn't too much of a
suprise. The other two were regular guys who both got hacked off with
women problems, and decided to take the permanent way out.

I'm bored with motorcycling, not life. That's going rather well!

So stop messing with big bikes and get either a lightweight or a trailie.
Hooning around like a teenager is more fun.

Spot on. I think I'll have a bikeless period followed by something a
    bit Motardy next year.

    I do - it's a hell of a lot better than the R30, in most ways: it's
much more comfortable (for 'motard values of "comfortable", of
course), it has a sensible tank range (180 miles instead of 80) and
    it's much better screwed together.

I'm buying Zymurgy's 12R at the moment, and will be taking that to
Chimay. And I'll be playing with both over the summer to see which I
prefer, and then probably selling both, with the logic being:

    * if I prefer a big sports tourer, I'll use the money I get from
selling them to buy a newer sports tourer
    * if I prefer the supermoto concept, I'll use the money I get from
selling them to buy a newer, "big" motard, probably the KTM LC8

All very macho but IMHO too big/heavy/clumsy to score in the
teenhoonability fun stakes. Something much lighter would be better for
    throwing around the scenery IMHO.
Take a look at something like the XT350 - great fun but a tad too tall
    for a shortarse like me.

    YMMV etc.

    XT350 : 120kg, 27hp

    LC4 SM: 149kg: 54hp
both weights quoted are dry, so inc. oil, water[1] and a full tank of
fuel, not that big a percentage difference to get twice the power in
the LC4. And if you think an XT350 is tall at 855mm seat height, don't
bother trying an LC4 at 910mm.

[1] OK, I don't think the XT is water cooled.

That sounds much more usable than the R30.
Don't get me wrong, the Blackbird is great and ticks many boxes. I
just don't have time for a motorcycle at this point in my life. I
can't commute due to the school run, can't get guitar gear to gigs at
the weekend. It's just sitting in the garage which seems a bit of a
    waste.

IKWYM. I don't have to do a school run or need to lug guitar gear
around, and I still seem to have little time to make good use of the
    bike.

I did use it for work today, but it seemed that by the time I got my
gear out of the cupboard and on, then got the bike out of the garage,
locked the garage again and got going I could have been halfway to work
    in the car!
