Anything to look for in 2nd hand VFRs (any vintage)

Have always liked the Honda VFR range. It's an excellent sports/tourer....at
    least for someone like me.

I once owned a VT and learnt the woes of chain driven cams on that engine
and vaguely recall the early V4's had similar problems, which lead to gear
    drive being introduced.

So is there anything to watch for when looking at 2nd hand VFRs? Obvious
things like: common flaws, ridiculously overpriced parts, parts availability
    etc.

Standard Honda Regulator/Rectifier failure. If it hasn't already been
    replaced then budget for it.

there was gear cams in 800 before Vtec came along in 02

98 -01 were injected and gear driven

    02 was Vtec with issues
    still same shap till today

    new VFR being unveiled today

as mentioned reg/rect are common gremlins

VFR's are reliable ,will do 100k+ no dramas

    quite understressed bike

look at usual consumables and beware any strange noises

What's the cost for a replacement (new...or second hand if practical)?

I see in the sneaky print that they've gone to SOHC (still 16V though).
They call it "Unicam" and apparently it's like the CRF450 engine:

Another Honda "because it's cheaper to manufacture thus more profit..."
    move no doubt.
Mind you, I had an SOHC 16V car once and it seemed OK.

Course you can cafe a VFR. Like most modern bikes it's easier to
streetfighter it because of the tank/frame shapes looking odd without
the fairing but it can be done.
