I personally didn't see the motorcyclist lose control or die so maybe
the risk wasn't that great. The copper on the camera bike took much
greater risks and should be banned for life.

    Fukkoath!
When he says "nearly had a head-on with an oncoming motorcyclist" he omits
the "I". The feller he was following did the overtake fairly safely but the
stupid copper just barged out blindly!
Some of his other moves were friggin' criminal considering he obviously
    wasn't using lights and sirens.
And why? He had the regular offender's 'plate and enough to hang him on
after the first minute; what's the point of following him without making ANY
ATTEMPT TO STOP HIM for 30 minutes?!!?
    Very very poor display.

idiot or not... one was breaking the law, one was enforcing the law.

so in the policeman the idiot or the law maker?

    mh
(not say either right... havent made up my mind yet)

I didn't see any skerrick of an attempt at "enforcing the law" Marty.
He just let that rider carry on taking risks and endangering lives and he
(arguably) even egged him on to more dangerous behaviour!
Atrocious! That video should see the end of Sussex Police's unmarked
    motorcycles squad overnight!

    Agreed.
You had him dead-to-rights after a minute; anyone with even half-a-brain
would've stopped him then or, if he refused to stop; and set up camp outside
his house (and maybe freeze his ATM card and divert his phone if he proved
    belligerent).
He's hardly gonna' go underground, assume a new identity and move to Brazil
    over a traffic offence!

Sadly, it will probably see someone receiving an OBE. The Brits have
some quite bizarre ideas about policing and enforcement, ones that
for the most part make the American's ludicrous claims to the effect
that *their* country is 'free' seem almost valid.

    (D) All of the above.

Perhaps the "law maker" part was inadvertant, but it's accurate,
nonetheless. (The cop's job is to enforce, not 'make', but of
course he'd see it differently to me).

in "law maker" I was referring to the the pollies..

so is the policeman the idiot or the people making the law that lets
the policeman ride like that are the idiots?

the cop,I guessing was just chasing within the law, then the law is an
    arse not the copper..

not that makes it right. (or is that.... not that that makes it
    right?)

I'm no expert but I'd wager that following like that for that length of time
WITHOUT lights and sirens here in Australia would be very much against the
law. (or at least the Police guidelines)

I'm not too sad about the motorcyclist (unless he/she was a 17yo kid, a
schizo or a Fink that the coppers were trying to kill) but I'm disgusted
that the coppers will endanger our lives doing high-speed chases just to
    enforce a traffic offence!
('specially when they've got the numberplate!)

Ahhh, somewhere in the back of my head a light just came on!
(Damn kids, always at the fridge!)

Is there a law that lets him ride like that? There sure as hell
ought to be one that punishes him for riding like that. (Actually,
there are plenty of laws, they're just in the book that applies to
us (punters), not the book that applies to them (cops)).

Doesn't make the copper any less of an arse I think. Just because
he can doesn't mean he ought.

I've been confused all along! :)

Doesn't have to be a nasty image. I met one the other day who
I'd rather enjoy imagining had (was?!) a brazilian. I'd lick it
    with Yeebok's tongue too!
