For those of you with an Arai shaped head, M&P are doing the Condor in
black for £169.99 or gay coloured ones for £199.99.

I do need a new helmet, and this is a very tempting offer, but I
recall nearing somewhere that Arai Condors were a sort of bargain
basement Arai and were different in some significant way.
Is this right or have I been misinformed?

They don't have the features of the more expensive helmets e.g. removable
cheek pads & fancy vents. Probably heavier than the £400 models too.

I've been using it's forebear, the RV, for a few years now. I'm very happy
with it. It replaced a more expensive Arai helmet and I haven't noticed any
difference in build quality or longevity.

IIRC, Champ bought one as a stop-gap after a race incident and has been
using it as an everyday helemt since.

I've been wearing a Condor for about 2 years now and it's the comfiest
and best built helmet I've ever owned.

It might be the cheek pads; the RX-7 I bought to replace the one
I trashed felt too small even though it was the same size. I pulled
the cheek pads out and they were 10mm and not the 20mm that were in
the previous one. I just swapped them over. It seems that they either
come supplied with random cheek pads or some dealers don't check!

This may, of course, be no help at all if it doesn't have removable
    cheek pads...

My current (and pretty old) Quantum F moves up and back at anything
over about 80. The Chaser that I've ordered is a size down.
Even trying on differnt models of Arai on Sunday, I found some were
    better in a 'S', others in 'M'.
You can't go wrong with an Arai, IMO.

They all have different inner linings that fit different shaped heads.
You need to try on the whole range before you say that - every model
    fits different shaped heads.

The 'Arai head' vs 'Shoei head' thing is a load of absolute and
    complete bollocks

While what you way about linings may be true, I have in the past found
myself unable to get my head into Shoei lids that fit snugly.

The lining and shell circumference may vary widely enough to fit anyone,
but aperture is (or was ten years ago, let us not pretend I'm not
posting to Usenet at 1.32am after half a bottle of port) rather
    variable.

    It's not that I don't have a Shoei-shaped head, it's just that Shoei-
shaped lids don't (or didn't) let me in to find out!

I have to disagree, albeit on a slighly different tack of "Arai
linings" fit my head better than "Shoei/ANOther linings".

Having tried on helmets from half a dozen different manufacturers on
Sunday, only Arai came close to being comfortable. Sure, some Arais
were more comfortable than others (the Viper GT wasn't, for example) in
the main the Arais fitted, the others didn't.

Every model I tried, the chin bar was too close to my chin. Mind, this
was some years ago, and things may have changed. I won't rule them out,
just that previously I've never found one to fit.
Actually I appear to have an AGV head.

maybe; though I can say with certainty that I've never tried on an
Arai lid that felt comfortable, but the Shoei's I've owned are fine.

Spent half an hour in Heinz Gerkin trying helmets on and bought a
Condor from M&P, well they *are* £239.99 in HG.
