Anyone familiar with the road from Armidale to Grafton? Is it a good ride?

The map I have shows some dirt from Clouds Creek to Nymboida, does anyone
know if this is still the case?

Basically trying to find some by-ways between the Gold Coast and Tamworth
    without adding too many miles.

    Thanks,

    Ian.

Lovely ride (but watch out for trucks on both sides of the road around the
    twisties between Grafton and Ebor).
This road and then Thunderbolt's Way is part of my standard Brisbane-Sydney
    route now.

  4. Nah, it hasn't had dirt on it for quite a while now... Its great fun -
if you've got the time I'd be tempted to tuen back east at Wollomombi(?)
and head for Kempsy, then you can head thru Wauchope and up the Oxley to
    get to Tamworth :)

If you mean Waterfall Way it's a damn good run. Goes through umm, Ebor
    Dorrigo ? I think ?

Not familiar with that one, no, but FWIW, the road from Grafton to
Lismore via Casino ('Summerland way' I think it might be called)
is bloody magic. Possibly not twisty enough to be really fun on
a bike (I've only done it on a car) but excellent road condition,
bugger all traffic, bugger all cops when I did it a couple-o
    years ago.

Hmm; Picky-Clem has to argue with that one too.
The Summerland way doesn't go east to Lismore but continues north to
[resists the urge to look it up] arrgh; somewhere with a short name like
    "bonk" or "chork" or something!

    [stops resisting and uses www.racq.com.au]
(Kyogle sounds like "bonk" when you've had a few!)

Yeah that's the one, although I didn't know about the half named thing -
    how does that work ?

Thanks everyone for the speedy replies. I'll check out the Wollomombi -
Kempsey road as well, again my map (the Bears motorcycle atlas!) shows the
first 80km or so unsealed. Have done the Summerland way from Mt Lindsay to
Grafton and on to Coff's via Nana Glen, agree its a great ride. South of
Casino bikes outnumbered cars 2 to 1, and everyone was travelling at a fair
    clip.

  10. Grafton used to be my second home. I remember when that road was all
potholes, roos and coopers (oops, coppers, sorry Johno). They've certainly
    fixed it up a bit.
I thought you meant Woodenbong! The Kyogle - Woodenbong stretch is farkin'
    great now.

  11. Orara Way. Much nicer ride than the Pathetic Hwy.
It's some great higher speed stretches now they've cleared the scrub back
from the edge of the road but beware roos and coppers, especially on the
weekends (well, the latter not the former but you know what I mean).

I just went goldcoast, lismore, casino, tenterfield which had some owsome
twisties over the mountain, then it wasnt bad between their and armidale
tamworth. in car last week unfortunetly. if your going further south, just
after tamworth is a billion locusts.

Summerland way is a great road, i remember doing warp 10 in old commodores
and then smashing my cat on my peugeot on that big dip at warp 5, dam low
car and cats lowest point. Just fill up before you go through it, only a few
servo's with very high prices. i dont think summerland goes to tamworth
though, more of lismore to grafton

Try the road from Grafton to Glenn Innes (is it the Bruxner Hwy? I always
get the Bruxner and the Gwydir mixed up)
    It's "owsome" too!

Bruxner runs from Tenterfield to Casino, and is also a good ride, especially
at the Tenterfield end. You can link up to the Mt Lindsay Highway or the
start of the Summerland Way though Bonalbo, Urbenville and Woodenbon(k)g.
This road is a bit rough in places, and looks as though the asphalt has
simply been sprayed onto the ground; there are very few cuttings and you can
see the road ahead snaking over the hills.

The Bruxner also heads west to Goondiwindi, is in good condition, quiet, and
    fairly open.
