arse hugging seats for a transalp

    I plan to ride me transalp a feck of a lot more than i did last year, i wont
    be doing thousands of miles a day in one go or owt, i'll be towing it behind
    the motorhome on a trailer to a nice area of the country, then will explore
    the area on the bike over a few days, move on and do the same,

    Last time i did that with the virago, i would do about 150 to 200 miles a
    day just pooteling about prolly within a 50 mile radius of where i was
    camped, but the virago had a custom seat with gel pads and was wide so it
    cradled my arse cheeks more like an arm chair.

    The transalp has the stock seat, and i seem to manage about 20 miles before
    my arse complains, i can bear it for about another 30 miles, but i always
    seem to have to stop and have a walk around every 50 fuckin miles,

    It's my arse bone that hurts not the cheeks, so it seems my arse sits over
    the transalp seat rather than on it... well sort of, it's not up the crack
    like a G string, my arse isn't that big, honest, no BGN, you cant have a jpg
    :)
    But the seat on sams honda pantheon scoot seems to hug my arse a lot better.

    Anyhoo, was wondering if i should be looking at a custom seat from say
    Corbin, but i expect them to be out of my budget (what other custom seat
    sellers are there), or one of these people who take your seat in, a few
    measurements of your arse, and strip the seat to the pan and re-build it
    with proper shapes and contours to it, gel inserts and so on?

    any ideas how much i should be looking at,
    apparently the pillion seat isn't too bad, my GF moans more about needing a
    pee every 5 minutes than her arse is sore, but if i get a nice sculpted seat
    she'll want similar, sort of like a king and queen seat but not so gay
    looking.

    I have a bit of leeway height wise, so the seat can be wider and i'll still
    get me legs around it touch the floor.

    Go and do do 500 miles a day for two or three days, only stopping for
    fuel and coffee, then 50 miles will seem like luxury.

    I used to ride 375 miles after a full day at work, get off the bike,
    get inside the ex-burds and have rampant sex with her for a few hours.

    To be fair I have no problems with covering decent distances and
    maintaining a reasonable level of comfort. It just sounds like
    captain dainty cheek needs to toughen up a bit.

    of course not, but i'm gonna keep trying till i get bored of it and buy a
    volvo and turn into a biker hating nazi :)

    i dont often mention this... but the reason my arse bone hurts is prolly
    down to me having had a form of arthritis since i was 14, coupled with a
    fucked up back (ankylosing spondylitis <sp>) where my back bone joints fuse
    together from scar tissue growing over the joints, this scar tissue breaks
    with a jolt, causing more scar tissue to form, and so on till one day i'll
    resemble the letter S when walking down the street.

    i also have ulcerative colitis, which means i shit my arse inside out
    regulary, that's part of the reason i want a seat that supports my arse
    cheeks rather than having my barking spider pressed against the saddle.

    I managed to ride the pantheon scooter 150 miles home the other week and my
    arse was mildly complaining at the end of the trip, so it's deffo the seat
    on the tranny,
    i love the transalp, does all i want, nice riding position for me, enough
    power to lug my lardy frame about and able to get into 3 figures...just,
    i dont like pcoket rockets, have done cruisers and prefer to be higher off
    the ground, so if i could get the transalps seat to feel like the virago's,
    i'd be a happy bunny, and hopefully do more than 3000 miles a year on the
    damn thing.

    Just about every seat makes my arse totally numb after 300 miles, so I
    just get on with it and carry on. Once the feeling is gone there's no
    need to stop apart for filling up.

    A mate had a 600cc Transalp that did the same thing to him. He invested in
    a gel seat pad which helped a bit. After a while he fixed the problem by
    buying an Afrika Twin.

    On the R-GS I improved comfort by fitting lower footpegs. I did this to
    help my wonky knees. This had a positive effect on my knee comfort and
    coinicidentally increased my arse comfort.

    The lowered footpegs straighten my leg position. This puts less stress on
    my knees and I suspect redistributes my weight, with more being taken via
    the pegs and less via the seat.

    About the same as I was a while back then.

    I kept changing bikes, thinking 'my arse aches because these are
    uncomfortable to ride', and it was only when I laid off the pies for a while
    that I realised it was me, not the bikes, that were more to blame for this
    sorry state of affairs.

    As others have said, you should find something like a Corbin saddle should
    help regardless.
    Have you not been properly introduced to Bear yet, then? ;-)

    Well, my realistic budget if **** all, as i have so many things i want/need
    to buy at the mo (looking for a single bike trailer at the mo, just mot'd
    the van, had the bike serviced, the dog's hair cut, helped the Gf buy a
    scoot, bikes insurance is due, mums birthday soon, one of me rats needs a
    lumpectomy etc)

    I've heard of sargeant seats being good, will look into them, tho i guess if
    they are made over the pond they wont do one for a transalp, thinking
    they'll be more harley stuff, but will look into it, tar.

    I believe the way Russell & Sargeant work is you turn up with your
    seat, they do lots of measurements etc, then you go back to collect it
    a couple of weeks later. I don't think they do off-the-shelf stuff,
    bicbw.

    I looked up a few of those places that re-pad your seat for you. I got
    a replacement saddle off Ebay for a later bike, which I was going to
    send away and have padded out, so I didn't lose the use of the bike
    (the Tiger 955i) in the interim. Well, bugger me if it wasn't 100%
    more comfortable than the original one, so I put it on and forgot
    about the extra gel padding.

    If I can dig out the link to the fella, i'll post it up.
    ****, the only time that happened was on the trans-european CCM R30.
    That fair rammed my Chalfonts back up where the sun doesn't shine ..
