My trusty magnetic tankbag won't work on the K.
Well, I had to find the tankbag first, so I thought I'd do it now, and then I thought I'd check it didn't foul the switchgear on the K, and it kept sliding off, and then light dawned....
>, says... Heh. Mine works on the 10R, but the panniers won't clear the exhausts of their own accord. Bit of padding under the straps lifts them enough, mind.
LOL, I very nearly bought a bag for my K100 too, but that was before I *knew* what the tank was made of. Luckily I was looking in the BMW specialists, and they had footnotes.
The Older Gentleman was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever: Check if you've got two metal "hooks", about an 1-1.5cm wide, near the rear of the tank. They're mountings for the BMW tankbag - I've got one you can borrow if you've got the mounts...
In If you were local I have a genuine BMW one or a Baglux one that you could've had the use of for a couple of days.
A tank bag and panniers? How much stuff are you taking - we're only away for two nights! Just one rucksack [1] for me. [1] Kriega 30l one.
3 for me, I have a stop off half way, but for this trip, I'll not be taking much at all, and I don't really need to bring back any cheap french fodder. For the Isle of Man, in a few weeks I expect I'll need to take quite a bit more though, so I've a few weeks to solve the problem of attaching it to the bike. [1] [1] Or cheating and using a big roll of packing tape.
I've got a BMW Multivario that says it also fits K-RTs from '86 onwards. It's in western Surrey, and will not be needed for a couple of weeks.
in case you didn't get my MSN on friday (and for others with underseat exhausts) look at the "muffler pads" here http://www.baglux.co.uk/saddlebags.php -- Adie (replace spam with nickname to reply) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ keeper of the ukrm faq for my sins YZF-R1: ZX9R E1 MRO#11 BOTAFOF#7 BOTAFOT#130 DIAABTCOD#17 MIB#24 YTC#16 BOB#15 ex-UKRMMA#22 BOMB#11
The usual tailpack for me, so no doubt I'll die en route due to fatally disrupted handling. Oh, and a tankbag for credit card, passport and a map, natch.

I can't think of anything that I couldn't get in Waitrose. Slightly cheaper over there, but worth stuffing panniers full of stuff? CBA.
