  1. An embarrassment of riches, her. You're a bit far for me to collect, but
    appreciate the offer.

I have a map pocket, for err, maps and passport. Credit card lives in a very
useful pocket on the rucksack (front side).

What even after he's zoomed half way up the M4 to work or to Heathrow to
    visit the Fatherland HQ?

I think we both are. I certainly did last time, and the time before
    that.

I've got a Rickman topbox (with L-plate) you're welcome to borrow, if
    Pip doesn't take it.

I have the same problem with the Sprint ST. I won't use it enough to
warrant a Baglux or the Triumph one, irrespective of being a bit short
    of cash this month, now.

I think I'll get a set of cheap throwovers - anyone used the Oxford
'First Time' ones? - or use a rucksack.

I've got panniers and tailpack from the Oxford Sports range, both of
which do the job nicely enough and neither of which have yet killed me.
I'll be using the tailpack at the weekend, but you're more than welcome
    to borrow the panniers.

I've got a brand new set of decent Oxford throwovers I bought on Ebay
the other day. Can't remember what they are called, but they retail at
about £70. They come with those little plastic showercaps that always
    seem to fall off.

Anyway, I'd prevously won a set of throwovers, and then forgotten I'd
won them, so I bought a second set. Yeah, I know, I know.

Up for £30 if anyone wants 'em.

Cheers, but I think it's worth getting some anyway, even if just only
for the odd occasions. If I can't get any, I might drop you a line
later in the week. You're in Maidenhead, yes?

Sticking everything inside in a bin liner has always worked for me.

Anyway, it's not going to rain on Friday, is it?
Ooh, that could be handy. I'm at Carl Rosner's Thursday afternoon for
    the 500 mile service. I don't suppose you're around?

Well, I'll see if I can get TOG's spare set, but thanks - I may be in
    touch.

Indeed. The ones for my Oxford 'Lifetime' throwovers didn't survive
long. Even at wimp speeds the flapping tends to split them even if you
think you have got them on really tight.

Otherwise the throwovers are still going strong. I just use the double
wrap in plastic strategy now. Big bin liner type of bag inside each
pannier (research to select the list stinky is worth while), then
clothes stuffed inside smaller plastic bags. My off the bike footwear
will probably travel in a 'Tate Gallery' example - classy eh?

There seems to be a major conflict between the BBC forecast for Dieppe
and the site I usually check for France:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?world=4227
    http://chaines.free.fr/meteo/region.pl?region=hautenormandie

What sayest though oh weather god (I didn't believe it until the Mallory
    experience)?

A cargo net over the rain cover solves both of those problems.

  17. I'm actually thinking about taking nothing at all. If I can live with
living in leathers for the whole trip I would but I don't think could d
it. I still don't have any luggage and if past events run true to form,
I'll end up bungeeing or cargo-netting some bin liners to the tank.
