I've read this twice but I still can't see "him" mentioned ;o)

I guess it isn't politic to admit they need people in to sort out the
    **** ups.

The Daily Record seem to be competing with the guardian for preposterous
    units of measurement:

"When deep-diving, the submarine must resist pressure equivalent to 400
family saloon cars piled one on top of the other on every square metre
    of the pressure hull."

How many double-decker buses per area the size of an Olympic-size
swimming pool does that equate to?

What do you mean, African or European double-decker buses?

You may jest, but here are the other "facts" from the article:

Astute's 323ft length is more than the length of 10 buses.

When fully stocked with stores it will displace 7400 tonnes of sea water
    - equivalent to 65 blue whales.

There is around 110km of cabling and pipe work on board - equivalent to
    driving from Bristol to Oxford.

Her missiles can strike at targets up to 1000km from the coast with
pinpoint accuracy - equivalent to driving from London to Paris and back
    twice.

So according to that, Paris and London are only 250km apart?!

And why didn't they just pick somewhere approx. 1000km from London in
    the first place?

Because that would be sensible. And sensible leaves no room for helping
people understand the displacement of a submarine in terms of washing
machines, upright fridge freezers or international standard wardrobes.

It's important that Paris is a certain distance from the coast so you
can strike at it with pinpoint accuracy. If you were to take the train
the comparison would be completely different.
