I have given her MONEY in return for INSURANCE for a full year.

I narrowed down my list of about 15 potentials to two:

    1) DirectChoice (Equity Red Star) £240 (£300 excess, inc. Legal Cover,
inc. CIHAGM, inc. UK ONLY breakdown & recovery) - my existing insurer.

    2) Carole Nash (Highways Insurance) £241 (£250 excess, inc. Legal
Cover, inc. CIHAGM, inc UK & European breakdown & recovery)

    Hello Auntie.

  2. Just insured the GPZ Turbo on my classic policy.

"Oh that's ok Sir, we'll just charge you an admin fee to add it to your
existing policy, classics with a value less than 5k don't carry any
extra loading, although you are in the highest group for the classic
policy, that'll be 20 pounds please. There'll also be no increase to
your renewal, so it'll be around 90 pounds again"

Spent most of the morning taking the piss out of a nearby Busa rider :)

    Is that fully comp?

Seems a good price actually. Have you decided against getting anything
    bigger for the moment?

Phone them back and tell 'em Devitt can do it for £210 with a £200
    excess but no Euro breakdown.

TPF&T. Licence: one year, NCB: one year. It's about £80 cheaper than
    last year.
I originally said I'd keep the ER-5 for two years (when my original A2
restriction would have expired) but I went back and did the full
Class-A test after that which opened doors to different bikes. The
ER-5 has had its restrictor removed and I do plan to replace the bike
    within a year.

There's a possibility that a large lump sum of shares might fall in my
lap this year (although I have no control over the selling)

    Current options are:

    1) BMW R1150GS/R1200GS
    2) Suzuki V-Strom DL1000 Grand Touring Edition
    3) Triumph Tiger
    4) Something else

I'm likely to buy a brand new machine.

    Beemer: <http://willrobinson.com/gs/other1/2005.jpg>
The Beemer is my fave and something that I'd really like to own but
the price at £11,500+ is asking a bit much. I'd probably opt for a
R1150 over a R1200, or perhaps wait until BMW have sorted out some
PROPER fixes for the R12's problems, not just bodged workarounds. The
panniers/top box and everything else must also be made out of gold for
the price tag they stick on the sides.

    Suzuki: <http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/gallery.asp?id=7258&p=2>
I did a test ride of the DL1000 last year as the dealer had one in
when I was also going for a ride of the Tiger. I expected to hate the
'Strom but I preferred it to the Tiger. I felt far more comfortable
throwing the 'Strom around bends at speed than the Tiger and it would
appear to be reasonable value at £6,999 compared to the Beemer and
would leave Mucho Cashibo free for the insurance which I think was
around a grand when I checked after the test ride. I assume the
DL1000 will turn into a bucket of rust after a winter, though. It
would be nice if they did it in black but the current model only
appears to live in blue. Comes with hard panniers & top box and
heated grips (but no crash bars) which is 1,000% more tham BMW
    include.

    Triumph:
    <http://www.mcnews.com.au/Wallpaper/Triumph/Tiger/2005/tiger_2005_green_rhf_1024.jpg>
There's no other way to describe the Tiger other than "Bloody ugly."
It may well be built like a brick shit-house and be really reliable
but I've ridden some mingers in my time and this is just too horrid
for words. It would have to be in dark green or black with one hell
of a custom paint job for me to even consider it, even at £7,599.

My existing insurer would do it for £181 with no brakdown and they say
they can't decrease their premium. I'm happy with it as it is.

I would get the standard model and get the accessories separately. The
standard is £6449 (I think) and you WILL be able to haggle this down (I
got mine for £6000 last year). Non OEM heated grips (Oxford) will work
fine and cost less than half the Suzuki ones. Givi luggage will also
cost less, I think, ordered on it's own. Crash bars are also a decent
    investment.

Why? I admit mine hasn't seen a lot of salt but it still looks fine. I
apply (and applied to my GSX-R) Scottoiler FS365 after each ride and
tend to NOT wash the bike that often - the GSX-R was pristine.
You sure it's only in blue? The standard one seems available in silver
    and black, but no blue.

I'd still go for the standard one and buy the bits you want rather than
the bits Suzuki think you need. I'm sure TOG will correct me, but I
can't see the "Grand Touring" bit adding any additional value that the
same items purchased separately wouldn't add.

I was originally going to say the standard DL1000 but the Grand
Touring Edition had everything I wanted.

I would rather pay £6,449 and have the luggage and grips thrown in FoC
as the dealer doesn't have to take such a cut in profits that way. I'm
not sure what the going rate for a full Givi luggage set and fitting
is normally priced at. From what I remember about it I'll need some
big ****-off crash bars (You had some quite nice ones I think -
something big to grab hold of). I don't think I'd consider a bike
without them. The ER-5's have preserved it's live for even more
    torture several times.
Every Suzuki I see around these parts (I live in the sea) has just
    rust holding it together.
I'm just going from the Suzuki website. I might have only clicked the
Colours button on the Grand Touring page though.

The Tiger is the sensible choice. Reliable and not covered entirely
with plastic. But it's just not me. I don't want to ride around on a
failed comic cartoon character. Well, not unless I had one hell of a
custom paint job, anyway. I will probably test ride another one this
year (perhaps I had a duff one last time) but I didn't feel happy on
it. I didn't feel confident on throwing it around bends and it didn't
feel stable (IMHO) for some reason. It was a second hand unit so it
    may have had issues.
I've never considered a KTM. I don't see many around here either.

He's posting from an Etch-a-sketch or something, which seems to throw in the
occasional random element. I was mildly amused by the way "I" kept coming
    up as "1" ("one").

Mr. ER-5 is left out on the road all day and all night in the shittest
of weather and during the day it's parked just feet from the sea in my
employer's car park. It also gets covered in tree sap at home and at
work. I do give it a good wash once a week and it always washed up
nicely and hasn't rusted anywhere. Well, apart from the down-pipes
and a bit on the tank where I've thrown it down the road.

    It's quite forgiving.

I bet women and small children bust into tears when they see one
    coming.
It just didn't feel 'right' and it the exhaust popped away merrily
when slowing down so it probably wasn't in the best shape.
