  1. I know this group has been slowing down (and I know I don't post
anywhere as much as I did a decade ago) but over the last few weeks I
seem to sense quite a drop off in the number of posts. I usually only
log in once a day before I go to work so I see how many posts go up
    each day.

I guess web forums are replacing the usenet? A pity as I like the
cleanliness of usenet. No visual clutter, direct to the point.

    And killfiles. Don't forget killfiles!

Of course all those posting through the truly awful google groups web
interface don't know that usenet is better than forums.

Yes, but too much of a mixed bag for many specific questions.. If I have
a question which is Buell specific I can either put up with a few slow
loading pages full of useless pictures and animations and ask it on a
Buell forum where the audience all ride Buells and have something useful
to say or I could ask it here where noone else rides a Buell and receive
just as many responses, although with the added bonus that I could later
complain that y'all bitches are unhelpful and full of shit and think you
    all own the place...

  4. But there's no reason for there not to be a Buell specific usenet
    forum.

I guess I'm just surprised at how it seems there are plummeting
    numbers just recently.

There are other Buell riders on here , doesn't indicate any more
    knowledge of course .
Now how do you find it ?

I wouldn't say that trend is 'recent' as 'been obvious for over 5 years'.

When I started posting to aus.moto the posts per day level fluctuated
between 40 and 80, at it's peak it got to several hundred posts per day.

It's down to as low or lower than when I started now, but it's been
    declining for years.

There are (as mentioned by others) web forums which seem to attract most
    of the new motorcycle posters.

One thing I've noticed is that there is fragmentation even in web forums.

Where once there were only 'general motorcycle forums' now there seems
to be forums for every brand and even modem specific forums.

Personally I prefer the forums with a wider user base rather than 500
people all with VTR's going "gee your bike is good... yeah yours too".

It isnt just aus.moto, its right throughout newsgroups.

as said specific forums are throttling people these days.

There's a forum on Guzzitech that I used to spend a chunk of time on
but seldom do now, because it's too focused.

And too full of Americans of course!

  9. I got onto a Lancer GSR forum a few years back when I was messing
around with some EVO mods to mine. That was insane. Talk about having
to sift through the chaff . . .

Problem with forums is you have some power crazed moron threatening to kick
you off unless you are "nice"

So I really cant see any of the regulars from this group surviving on those
    forums

    A while back I posted a question, politely worded........Although I got some
decent replies the first to answer was "Knobdoodle" who came back with a
very hostile and arrogant response , Ive noticed he does this regually to
anyone not in his "inner circle"

I have a hide as thick as a Rhino's arse, so being "flamed" by a call centre
worker does no faze me, but I can imagine to some this would be off putting
and many who read here will not post.

Maybe that just proves you really don't have a sense of humour after
all? That, or you just need to harden up. :)

I cant see that being effective as within minutes another persona can
be built and be back on .
I moderate a trade forum , but then you know how tradies are :p

Bloody hell! So you not only have to ride the same bike, you have to
have the same ADSL gear as well?!

Well, I for one, don't post here much because the very people whose
noses I want to get up have all killfiled me and the rest can't be
    bothered responding to my shit.

Could it be that it's finally become a clique too far?

For instance: Zebee reckons that the Greens don't do meetings very
well, but if I were to throw an invitation her way to attend the State
Delegates Committee meeting (in Katoomba in August,) as an observer,
and to do a review here following this, what would she say?

Motorcycles you say? OK, the Greens would probably support more
people riding motorbikes than driving V-8s. Also many Greens members
ride motorcycles. Ozmoto enough for ya?

Those who are too afraid to post in here, probably shouldn't...

We have enough pink bikes in here already...

This is true, and I do prefer a general discussion group such as this
with all different owners of all sorts of brands and models mix in
together. What I find to be the worst part of the bike/model specific
forums is that the people tend to rev each other up and get very single
minded about one specific brand or model. I've seen it on Kawasaki
forums, on Honda Blackbird forums and the Buell forums, where a lot of
the posters believe (and let everyone know it) that the bike they
currently ride is the be all and end all of motorcycling and they'd
never choose anything else as long as they live. I've never had any
particular brand allegiance and although I've always liked the bike I've
owned I find that sort of over enthusiasm and oneeyedness to be
particularly annoying, and in the long run, those sorts of people who
don't consider other bikes are potentially going to miss out on some
pretty good bikes that come along..
