The one thing that moderated forums have over usenet, is that google
archives [almost] everything in usenet, while most forums I have
subscribed to allow a bit of off-topic stuff to go on, as is the nature
of conversation, but then the moderators can go back and clean up the
threads to remove a lot of the off topic shit so that only on-topic
stuff is archived.. meaning that any searches you do through the forum
are going to get a lot more good hits... of course then the downside is
that occasionally a web-host will let you down, as happened to a couple
of big Aussie bike forums last year, when the servers suffered disk
failure and then they discovered that there had been no backups taken
for 6 months...

I got out of mainstream media 15 years ago because I hated the dumbing
down. OK, so now I am making cartoons for kids, but I think part of
our success is that there is still a moral story on the side to try
and kick some sort of concept that I am doing something worthwhile
into my mind.

It's certainly better than directing the fucking AFL or Derryn Hinch
or Mark Day or editing A Current Affair, 60 Minutes and the other
shite I've done over the years.
