That wasn't a reference to actual nazis. just a slang term. Hence, no
    Godwin.

<suspicious look> And exactly how do you know so precisely the time it
takes a human to decompose, hmmmm ?

I'm pretty sure his bones haven't decomposed yet. And he was a tough old
    bugger.

"As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison
involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one."

Spelling Nazi implies that the person doing the 'spell checking' is as
strict as a Nazi would be.

That seems to be a comparison to me...

I always thought Godwin's was that as soon as a Nazi analogy is made,
the discussion ends. Seems I had the wrong end of the stick.

    Hmm :
    Godwin's Law: prov.

[Usenet] “As a Usenet discussion grows longer, the probability of a
comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one.” There is a
tradition in many groups that, once this occurs, that thread is over,
and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever argument
was in progress. Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence
of an upper bound on thread length in those groups. However there is
also a widely- recognized codicil that any intentional triggering of
Godwin's Law in order to invoke its thread-ending effects will be
unsuccessful. Godwin himself has discussed the subject. See also
    Formosa's Law.

Whilst it is true that is the tradition in many groups it isn't actually
'Godwins Law' in and of itself.

And in the time I've been on aus.moto I don't believe the denizens have
ever had the discussion on whether or not this particular group
    subscribes to that tradition.

I'm sort of gobsmacked... I suspect you've actually found a new and
relevant subject for ausmotians to discuss :-o [1]

    G-S

[1] Personally I'd be happy for us to adopt that tradition BTW :)

this one'd reply to you and BTH if I clicked it) as well as aus.moto.

Tools > Account Settings - look for the ISP name in the list on the
left, then click on the "Copies and Folders" tab under that. Then you
can see where it's saving the copies of your outgoing posts and change
if required. If you only have news set up and no email account it might
not be saving them anywhere.. you might need to set up an email account
in Thunderbird just so you have somewhere to store outgoing posts.

Yeah, but how many ways can you phrase, "what's the best way to secure a
    Buell on a breakdown vehicle?"?

(Harley and Ducati riders will know what I'm talking about here as
    well...)

And ironically, there's one of them here, at least, that I am aware of,
who gets his jollies 'moderating' one web forum that I have an occasional

I haven't noticed that happening. I only use Google now anyway (a
rather tight firewall at work blocks NNTP access, and I haven't
bothered to set it up at home).

  17. If your perception is anything like your wit (Ducatis are unreliable,
hyuk-hyuk), chances are there are anywhere between eighteen and 437
other ausmoto people on that same forum...

Are you talking about Fidonet to/from Usenet, or general Fidonet mail
    transfers?

If the latter this used to occur every morning at what was called "netmail
    hour", usually around 4am.

I'm not sure about any interaction between Fidonet and Usenet as I think
this was very much an ad hoc arrangement between those BBSes that
participated and the likes of APANA, a volunteer Usenet/Internet
equivalent of Fidonet at the time.

That was my understanding too the BBS I had as a feed offered Fidonet
and News. I just took the Fido.
