    I got wise to this and I buy 6 pairs of identical socks at a time now.
    I just keep them until I've only got two left and then I buy 6 more pairs.

    I did that once but bought light-coloured socks. As they tend to get washed
    with the jeans and other dark stuff, after a short while every sock was a
    slightly different shade. So I had ten socks from five pair, not one was a
    match for the other nine. Aaaagh!
