Fortunately, the other book was WS's Julius Caesar which the BBC kindly put
on BBC2 about 2 weeks before my exam. I don't think I would've scraped a C
otherwise.

 

Heh. I had that one, plus Pardoners Tale. TBH I preferred them to
Shakespeare.

I saw the original BBC b/w rendition, years ago. It was transmitted
live, believe it or not[1]. In some scenes you could see microphone
booms wobbling frantically out of shot, but it was still very good.

I find it odd that Orwell's books haven't been more frequently filmed.

[1] To forestall the inevitable jibes, no, I'm not that old. I saw a
recording.

 

Down and out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Peir were among
the earliest books I heard on A Book at Bedtime, many yonks back. Been
repeated many times since, of course.

 

Mildly amused was I last week to spot a Greek monument to Auld Caesar.
Spelled Kaiser - wtf, I thought; the pretentious Hun ****.
