Don't suppose anyone has an autocom isolated music lead they dont need
    anymore do they??

it's for the origional easycom version, so a 3.5mm stereo jacks on both ends
(think the new autocoms have 4 pin jacks on the intercom end)

The autocom kit ace sold me is brilliant, me and sam can argue about each
others shit choice of music whilst tomtom tries to direct us around and
    warns us of speed cameras,

but when i plug the charger lead into the pda i use for music and twat nav,
i get a lovely alternator whine with a cdi generated backing beat, i
expected that tho, so i'm not dissapointed.

You should have said - I'd have chucked a couple in the box. If you
cant find one I'll bung 'em in the post when I'm back home, but am in
the US this week and Greece next, so it'll be a while.

I'm in the US this week too, just down the road.

well I will be if the flight ever leaves. currently on a three hour
delay but I'm sat in the lounge so it could be worse.

however I have been awake since 3am to get a flight from Manchester
    [1] to Heathrow.

Flying back thursday. Could meet up Wed eve if you fancy.
Cool. Haven't really kept up with MST this, err, millenium. They
seemed to have lost the edge a bit after the Truth album - what d;ya
    reckon to their later stuff?

What do you mean by 'isolated'? ICBW but I don't think any of the
Autocom leads are special for keeping out electrical interference. If
the problem starts when you plug in the PDA power, then that's where the
noise is originating. The Autocom will just faithfully reproduce it.

that would be cool. drop me a mail with a phone number and I'll give
    you a call later.
not really a fan so wouldn't know their stuff so to speak but they
were entertaining enough on the stage.

I'd missed that point in the OP, and yes, the lead itself is not in
any way shielded, and doesn't need to be.

i mean isolated as in ground loop isolater type thing, a lead with a little
box in it somewhere, which inside is a pair of audio 1:1 transformers that
    break the ground loop.

Basicaly it's when you power an audio devise from the same electrical system
as the autocom is connected to, you get all sorts of shitty noises traveling
around the earths then, autocom know all about it and sell the ground loop
isolator leads to cure the problem, and another make of intercom has
isolated inputs built in for that reason,

anyhoo, not in a rush for an isolated or what ever you call it lead, my pda
runs for about 5 hours on it's batteries, which is longer than i ride for,
just it'd be nice to have the pda charging as i ride so i dont have to
remember to re-charge it when i get home,

so can i take you up on your offer please Ace,

Ah, I wondered if you meant one of them. I got one to wire up the radio
on the bike using the speaker leads. As with all Autocom stuff -
    expensive. About 35 notes IIRC.

I hadn't fully realised what you were wanting - the ones I had were
just plain old audio cables, with no shielding at all, so won't be any
    good to you. Sorry.

    ok mate, no probs,

apparantly it's a normal audio cable, with a square box in it somewhere,

i've seen maplins sell a ground loop isolator for a tenner, a couple of quid
for some male and female 3.5mm stereo connectors to replace the phono plugs
on it, and i will have a plug in ground loop isolater.

Will nip out and get the bits and try it out later on today, be easier than
having to take the tank off again to run a new autocom lead anyways.

went to maplins today, bought a ground loop isolator for a tenner, and a
3.5mm stereo inline plug and socket for £1.10 each.

snipped the phono leads off, soldered the 3.5mm plug and socket on, and put
it inline at the autocom end of the music cable, works a charm, absolutely
no noise on the audio that shouldent be there now,

it pulls the volume down a slight bit and knocks some of the bass off, but
that's normal with an isolation transformer, i just slide the equlizer
sliders up for the bass and increase the volume a bit on the pda to
compensate, i need about 35% volume to get mp3's playing at a comfortable
level, tomtom's volume is set at 70% so it talks over the music (i run the
mp3 player in the background and tomtom on the screen of the pda, so it all
goes down one music lead), and of course everything gets lowered to half
volume when we speak and activate the vox.
