Why don't we get a 2nd place choice?

    What, like PR ?

AV is a seriously bad idea, most voters like only 1 of the 3 main parties
and hate the other 2, a lot of voters will cast their extra votes for
lunatic fringe parties they think can never get in - or can they!

  3. There is no requirement to list the parties in order of preference ,
you need only to select one leaving all others blank which really
makes the whole AV argument rather pointless

No, but I tend to enjoy watching people make tits of themselves.

Spend a lot of time in front of the mirror do you?

  9. Sure, of course you can chose to.

By the same 'reasoning' you could make the argument that there's no
requirement to vote so it makes elections rather pointless.

Don't move to Australia; we have various AV/PV systems, plus it's
compulsory to vote. I've been fined many times because I didn't even know
there was an election, being overseas; eventually they disenfranchised me.
