Servicing it did bugger all. Still £17 quid a day on the commute.

Set of carbs from ebay £25. Fitted and balanced. Gone from 36mpg to
47mpg, commute bill down to £13.60

    Result.

No change in "style"[1] no. A lot less filtering in the current weather.
The leaves/mud/gravel on the local roads do make for somewhat slower
progress for the first/last few miles.

[1] doesn't seem like the right word somehow.

    Indeed not :)

Still more than my commute would cost.

Even at £1.10 a litre or whatever the current price is?

Yes. Last one I did, just before my break was about £12. something 120
    miles of brisk, motorway riding.

Bad form, but I do recall being surprised that that Bandit cost as much
as the Speed Triple to commute on. It sounds like the carbs went when it
was in storage and you're back close to where it was in 2007.

Didn't it just go up 10p in the last few weeks though? Feels like it.
That's got to be down to FI (is a lot) > carbs for fuel efficiency. Or
the B6 isn't very efficient when being ridden like a girl.

There must be a solution to this shite in the carbs malarky. I haven't
tried the B6 ones yet but ultrasonic cleaning isn't the final answer, at
least not on my SOSOHC 750 Honda. Somehow the little passageways
block/fur up and they're impossible to get at unless you remove all the
    little brass bungs etc.

is an article I wrote for Motorcycle Dealer Magazine about 15 years ago
which gives some insight to the problem.

New fuel pipes might help, they can start to break down a bit with age.
On the carb Tiger I always switch the tap off before getting home &
leave it running 'til it dies. Never had any problems since I started
doing that, whereas before it wouldn't start if sat for more than a
week with petrol in the carbs unless I drained them.

  11. I understood that was the accepted way of doing it with u/s. Remove
    *everything* that can be removed.

  12. Interesting. Common knowledge now, of course, but quite novel then.

  13. Heh. On my old carbed Trophy, I used to leave the fuel tap on Prime to
achieve much the same effect, for much the same reason.

Yebbut have you ever found a way to get those brass plugs out? AFAIK
they're hammered in after the passageways have been drilled.

Got me thinking about commuting for a minute there. If commute is the right
word for going to the boychic's bodyshop each day, I reckon that during my
commute, I occasionally manage to get into 4th gear before I arrive and
manage 4 or 5 drags on a fag from home to "work".

Not a bad price. I'd have thought the problem was due to worn needles /
needle jets. Fixing that would be more than £25 though.

Indeed. Especially compared to the plugs (about £45 IIRC from my local
stealership), air filter £25 etc. I did have to wait for the right set
    to come up on ebay.
Don't think it was wear. It had sat for a while, had a rough spot at
4,000 rpm and definitely ran rich.
