    Oh dear,

The family reunion wasn't the warm fuzzy I was expecting... and I was
isolated on the outskirts of Christchurch - no mobile phone, no easy email
access, no car, no motorbike... and staying in a house full of (mostly older
family) people whose days don't start till after midday. AAAAAAAAAAAAARGH!
Can anybody empathise with my plight? I guess I'm just not bolshie enough to
    be a demanding guest.....

God I am so glad to be home....

    betty, who LOVED riding
    the bike to the supermarket
    this arv. Omigod....... I'm gonna
be out there at 6am tomorrow!!!! Happy New Year
you lovely Ausmotians (and even the
    not-quite-so-lovely-ones!) '07 has surely
got to be better than '06..... pleeeeeeeeeeeeeease!)

  2. The better you expect it to be, the worse it always is.

That's why I choose to be a pessimist (I say 'realist'). That way, I'm
    hardly ever disappointed.

yeah, it's crap isn't it? The first one ever in nearly 40 years, 4 yrs ago,
was brilliant.... so I sort of thought this one might be similar - but it
    wasn't....

I reckon those "one off" things should probably stay one-off. As soon as you
try and turn them into something regular (even 4-yearly, like an Olympiad)
the expectations creep in... Despite that, the other Canberran members of
the clan have offered Canberra as a venue in 2010. Eek!

Alright - own up. Who's impersonating Our Betty ?

'Cause it don't sound like the Lady who crashed and got back on a bike,
and it 'aint like the Lady who went to court over some scroat.

If it really is you Betty, well at least you got to see them - there may be
    less next time.

I hope your year is a thousand times better than you wish (and your bike
runs well and you get no points).

    Stay well and happy,
    RexT.

  5. This is what I like about being 20,000km from my family at this time
    of the year :)
Midday? That's bloody early for me. I was up at the crack of 1430
    today.

Now all I have to do is get a job and a bike again . . .

awwww, thanks Rex - for the good wishes AND the pep talk - I've had my 'pity
party' now ;-) Weird, eh, the things that can disturb your equilibrium and
bring you down? (I get like that if there's no coffee in the house too...)

Am going to brave the weird Canberra weather this morning and get some of
the best medicine of all - a nice ride! Bungendore, anybody??? (at the speed
    limit of course!)

    Yay, 2007!!!!!

    Ah, coffee...
May have room for my plunger & grinder this trip, in which case I'll have
    real coffee at Holder.
(My coffee machine sits on my desk at Weston - yup, a real coffee freak)

Seems that the weather turned a little nasty after I left town for "down
    south".
Reports of Hail and mudslides - even someone trapped in a car in
    Belconnen...
Hope my flat is ok and the rain lets up for the 10 hour run back to town.

Take care out towards Bungendore - the Roos seem to be suicidal out that
    way...
(My R100 is in bits out at Wamboin, almost fully apart...)

    I'm gonna
Only way to go! choose your own path, and just make it better. Brush aside
the rubble. Yeh, sometimes easier said than done though.

  9. There were cars that were parked on the side of the road which needed
the asistance of the fire department to dig them out.

We thought it was getting a little wet in our lounge room, bedroom,
and a little dark as the lights started to make a bzzing sound .... 10
    seconds before all went dark.

But talking to the other peple in our street, we got off easy.

Either way, the bike was safe in the shed ... though it's in peices at
    the moment.

Friend on the southside had a foot of hail piled around her house till noon
on Monday! (plus soaked carpets, walls etc). Nasty stuff.

Take it easy on the road, Rex - fingers crossed that the weird weather is
over. Yeah yeah, we need the rain, but it would've been nice tohave had it
spread out over the last few years.... <grin>.

    Thanks for good advice Betty
    - will keep eyes peeled for bad weather and muppets.

Work addy is <full name with a dot in the middle> at afp.gov.au
if technical assistance ever required, used to work as a mechanic
in the days of carbies, so tuning etc is second nature
(and yes, have split more cases than I care to recall).

So if there are any ausmoto readers in need of an ear
and another set of hands, tools, drinking partner
    - drop me a line, there's not much on tv and the evenings are light these
    days.

Can't get Newsgroups at work, so signing off for 3 weeks.

    Stay well and happy,
    RexT.
