Yeah! Someone's gotta find what's causing that and stop it!
He'll make the rest of us look bad!

    What he said!

    Great Photos BT!

And good job with the mast... reminds me of putting up radio masts from
local bits and pieces in remote areas :)

Looks like a fun (if busy) trip.

    Cheer up Atec! Remember:

Some things in life are bad
they can really make you mad
other things just make you swear and curse.

When you're chewing on life's gristle,
    don't grumble, give a whistle!
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
    And...

    (All together now!)

Spose you wanna "hang about " as well ?
Incidentally where did you get the Genny from ?
might just be a solution for a problem our wireless club has .

    Oatley Electronics stock them: http://www.oatleyelectronics.com

    Also Jaycar: http://www.jaycar.com.au

And there are a few sellers of the same unit on Ebay.

They cost about $450 now, and the kit is fairly complete. The one I
used for testing had either a defective or poorly designed charge
controller though. The Oatley 200W machine looks like a better one for
real world use (ie. low winds most of the time) IMHO.

Solar is better though, if you can afford it. Much lower maintenance,
    and no moving parts.

That sentence makes a lot more sense if you know that, before I left
for Fiji, Oatley were also selling a 400W turbine with a smaller
diameter rotor (ie. it was better in high winds, not so good in low
    winds).

Thanks , 200 watts should keep our 3 band repeater working ok , solar
sometimes can be better but this is a group of Hams , do you understand
tight like a fishes arse ? :)I have the controller all built so will
    investigate a suitable Genny

We have a 70 cm on Mt Tambourine (438.50 irlp), the 2 meter was up and
is down again but we snagged a 75 watt Motorola and the 6 meters is here
on the bench ( 45 glorious watts), sadly the current location doesn't
allow much room so we are looking at two sites , one in the Beaudesert
Shire without power but council land and free with good access 10 k from
here and the other is a commercial site on Tambourine so of course we
would prefer the free one as its to service Logan West

The other thing to remember is that it takes quite a stiff breeze to
give you a genuine 200 watts output - you really do need a good site.
In Australia at least, solar is more reliable (especially in the
summer, when it's usually not so windy).

Is the site remote and/or unattended? Security can be an issue too.

    No hand-cranked "grinding" then?

My disturbingly-strong right arm got quite a workout cranking that
    grindstone.

It's probably worth a try then. The $399 that they cost (Oatley has
them on special) is probably less than it would cost to hire a logging
    anemometer to test your site.

For some time, I was too afraid to click the link, images of BT half
nekkid (or worse, a sarong) on some idyllic tropical beach sprung to
    mind.

I was alsmost dissapointed when I did open it, you worldly chappie,
hope you get as much out of it as the Fijians do.

He won't touch that one, I've made it too obvious. Pat should be along
    shortly though.
